Grunt to NFO II: The legend continues!

I'm not sure how it works for the Navy, so I'll give you the gouge on Marine aviation (SNA or SNFO). You can not be older than 27.5 at time of commissioning. This can be waived up to (and check this) 29 for prior service guys. PRK is the same as LASEK and it is waiverable, provided your eyes...

    PLC help

Lots of good advice. I enlisted first, though for different reasons than becoming more competative for PLC. If you want to become a Marine Officer, don't enlist and run the chance of being deployed, there is no such thing as a garantee in the Marines. You'll be plenty competative with good...

    available slots?

I contracted as GND then after OCS, but before commissioning, I switched to NFO. It's a lot eaiser switching once you go through OCS because you've already proven you can make it to commissioning. It also will depend a lot less on your OSO's mission because you already filled one ground slot...

    PLC Selection board

Depends, if you push hard you can get a package done in a week or so, assuming you have not major issues (i.e. legal, academic, etc...) but I don't think you need to push that hard if you don't have a date for the board. F.Y.I. there are different boards for PLC jr/sr/co and OCC. The next OCC...

    Marine Air contracts

I enlisted in the reserves 5 yrs ago with the intention of going the PCL route. I was told I would miss "at most 1 semester of college" I ended up missing one full year b/c I had a 3 month wait for the new MOS class to pick-up that the recruiter failed to mention, and I had difficulty getting...

    Pro Rec NFO, wanted pilot

If your in the Marines I believe (I am currently waiting to start TBS) that you can get PRK after flight school and then submitt an application to go SNA. You do not want to get PRK duing trainning beacuse it will put you out of trainning for over two weeks. Either get PRK before commissioning...

    Motivational Statement

The truth, don't try to fluff it too much, can come off as arrogant to a bad extent. Why do you want to join? Why do you want to fly? Simple, short & good spelling and grammar and you'll do fine

    Occ 193

If it's still the same as a couple of years ago, the first paycheck comes right before first libo (end of 3rd week)

    Navy Approved PRK Doctors

I just got commissioned in the Marine Corps and have an NFO slot. I opted to get PRK after commissioning because it's eaiser to waive (less paper work is always a good thing). To my knowledge, you can wear glasses to correct for things like night vision, but they thing you need to get waived...

Which paths guarantee me a flight spot?

You can apply for PLC your freshman year. However, as a frosh or sophomore you'll have to do two 6 week OCS classes for the Marine path. The benifit is you'll have a lot more time to work out all the hurdles that will inevitably show up. You could wait and do one 10 week OCS class your junior...
