We had a guy in my class who wouldnt STFU to save his life, but would 'shhh' everyone else and then keep talking. He was "that guy" for multiple reasons.

Vision correctable to 20/20 but not good enough for naval aviation?

Is your astigmatism >1.00 diopters? If so, then you'll be NPQ'd. That's exactly what my problem was.

Updated list of things to bring?

I dont know what this airborne crap does, but the best thing you can have at OCS is ibuprofen/motrin. That stuff will work wonders after a long day of getting beat and standing at attention for 16 hours and med-call will pretty much give you a small bottle of it. If you're like me and you FUBAR...

Updated list of things to bring?

This is bad advice. DO NOT leave anything you might need in your car. POV runs are not guarateed and you may never see that crap again. Put that stuff if your "lucky bag" and carry it in. Before RLP you'll be allowed trips to the small NEX and to the lucky bag room to grab stuff. The Candi-Os...

I disagree about the body wash. Get the bodywash bottle and take it. It's quick and easy and no one gives a damn what you wash with as long as you don't stink...much.

    Your major and career

Ha, me too. That EE crap was hard. Got my degree in it though. Many a'semester where I had a 35 avg and somehow came out of it with a B. I have no idea how the grading system works around that place.

Questions for me and my hubby - ocs class 08Jan12 - Ty!

This get's tricky. Seems like I remember the answer being 'no'. You're better off using the move to get the majority of your belongings from whatever place has the majority of it and then the rest of your stuff will be your responsibility from the 2nd place.

Vision correctable to 20/20 but not good enough for naval aviation?

That chart is tough. I had the same problem. First time I saw that chart was at OCS. Almost got NPQ'd because of it.

OCS possible NPQ for history of back issues

You may want to check on that. I remember the rules regarding e-mail and internet use being pretty strict. Like no email access except for on Sundays and the computers weren't supposed to be able to access anything but a few Navy websites but we all knew half of them would go elsewhere. Just be...

    sTUPID qUESTIONS aBOUT ocs

I checked in on Oct 24th. No holiday time for Thanksgiving but they made us a pretty nice dinner that day. Christmas holiday was 2+ weeks off but they took it out of our leave so we graduated with mucho negative leave. Most of us would've rather just stayed and finished at that point.

    AW laps itself again (C-130/F-16/A-10/CVN)

I saw some documentary where the handler said "this job is so difficult that they haven't designed a computer that can handle it". Something tells me that was a BS statement seeing as my Android phone can pretty much map the stars, download my work schedule, and play angry birds all at once. I...

    Automobile to Newport?

My 10 year old truck sat there for 2 months after being driven all over the east coast (sort of partied my way up to OCS) and cranked up first try after being in the Newport winter. In short, I think you'll be ok. I dont recall us having anyone with a dead battery...not in my class anyways.

Albert Philip Wells, age 89...a VMF 323 "Death Rattlers" Ace, WW II

Being a bit of a history nerd, I always hate to see these guys go. Some of the best stories and history lessons you'll ever get are from grandparents and elders and it's difficult to think that one day we won't have anymore WWII vets to tell their tale. Those men and what they did is just larger...

TOPGUN and WTI: similarities / differences

Have you had the pleasure of meeting the lady who is in charge of our 'environental' program here at Whiting? She briefed us during check-in and it was, to say the least, the strangest briefing of my life. The closing remark was, "Just remember guys, we're not inheriting the Earth from our...

What gouge are you talking about? Here are the documents I need to submit your application and don't go to OCS out of shape and disgusting? That's not exactly gouge. More like common sense.

    Instrument Rating Prior to Primary

I wouldn't reccomend getting your whole instrument rating. That's sort of a waste of money and time. The best thing you can do is familiarize yourself with by instrument flying by doing it on a sim with an instructor who will go through some basic instrument maneuvers and then show you how to...

I'll be the first one to tell you that plenty of people show up to OCS in piss poor shape and fail the PRT, but that little rant you just posted is a bunch of horse shit. One of the most physically fit guys in my class stress fractured bones in both legs and had to be treated for compartment...

West Point Cadet jumped twice: Once by thugs, once by the Army

I think you're missing the point. There were 3 BIG guys that beat him senseless in some stupid attempt to 'protect' some half assed has-been singer. Maybe it's just me, but he could have been belligerent and TRYING to pick a fight and those guys could have handled it better than that and without...

I'm emailing my congressman too. Not sure what good it will do but this is un-frickin-believable. Beat to the point of requiring staples in his head for being too close to someone's luggage? Yeah, Patty Labelle owes him some serious apologies and money. How can two large men walk up to someone...

    NSS Going away in API?

Hey now, I think it's worth nothing that 5 hour drive is a real bitch. ;) Smirnoff, I (along with any other OCS grad) had something like 3-4 days to drive from Newport, RI to SC. Pack everything I own..and be checked into building 633 in Pcola. Leaving OCS with 14 days negative leave really bit...

    NSS Going away in API?

Is there any reason for this big push? Does big navy need more pilots that badly?
  37. J

Updated list of things to bring?

Did you not read my previous post? READ IT. Bring all of your own stuff...deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, all that crap. Everything is NOT issued and what they do issue you either sucks or is only enough to last about a week.
  38. J

    NSS Going away in API?

Whiting is a little more backed up than Corpus but not much. They just sent 2 whole API classes to Corpus (the ones that didnt have follow-ons) to get their pool stocked back up with SNAs.
  39. J

    NSS Going away in API?

That's the gist of it. A-pool is down to about 20 people (give or take) and those of us heading to VTs are classing up very quickly. I've had a little over a month between leaving API and classing up with VT3 for primary and I had one of the longer wait times in C-pool (2 weeks).

  41. J

    NSS Going away in API?

Air force ROTC vs. Naval ROTC

I was in AFROTC for a while. The above is not entirely true. Every ROTC unit tends to be different. - we never PT'd indoors unless it was freezing outside. - the unit I was in had some serious athletes in it. Both lifters and runners and swimmers. - AFROTC produces some good officers...for...

Myself, a CG guy from my API class, and a few enlisted guys, and I'm sure a few others go to Crossfit 5 flags. Hornet pilot loses wings over...a videogame?!

IF the flashing was over the accepted limit and that's what caused it then it seems like a legitimate case. Seems like it would have to be way over the accepted limit for it to cause a seizure in someone that's never had one before.

1,001 questions about the ASTB (post your scores & ask your questions here!)

Do not let him retake it. That's a perfectly good (excellent) score and if he doesn't get selected then I doubt if it would be over a few points on the the ASTB. Work on the GPA and kill those last few classes.
