Haha, we still do it manually when we sign for the book, that way we can cross-reference it to make sure the jet is correct. Usually works pretty close. The electric jet man, nothing like letting Hal drive. Oh, you CAN still over-G the jet, and you can also over-ride the G-limiter in dire...

The stories some of the old A-4/A-7/A-6 drivers here would tell us about training for SIOP situations were unreal. They were all convinced they were going to die if it happened, and some of the stuff they trained to were just crazy.

Yeah, it inventories the systems on the jet, etc and knows how much it weighs. Pretty cool. It's not super accurate, but will definitely get you close. Trick is, it won't inventory some systems until they're turned on... for example, if the EW suite isn't turned on, it doesn't tally their weight.

Yeah, the FCS won't allow it to pull 7.5Gs at that weight. It automatically G-limits the aircraft based on weight.

Like UINavy said, this is great advice. The difficulties of an engineering major, provided you want to do it, is great experience. The stress load and time management are skills that will directly relate to flight school in general.

That's false. I saw plenty of AE types graduate in 4 years in my ROTC years.

Some schools are doing 5 year programs for various reasons. Northeastern University does that for engineering and technical majors, for example. There is a lot of material to study in the engineering disciplines and more keeps being added. Now... 5 years for a history major? No excuse.

I studied EE after switching over from CS. I did it in 4 years, so does nearly everyone else. Maybe AF guys are weak ;)

You can stay in ROTC for 5 years. Whether they will cover you or not is another question I can't answer. Why 5 years? Are you starting over? An Aero Degree is easily attained in 4 years.

We were certainly carrying HARM in Fallon. We didn't shoot any off, but I would assume if we can carry them, we can shoot them... otherwise they wouldn't be on the jet.
