    Learning to Fly Helicopters

It is how I first learned at 15 years old. Worked fine. You do not need all the theory before learning basic mechanics. When you get more indepth, of course that will be required.

    Learning to Fly Helicopters

That's very civilian though. Most civilian flight schools won't start you in ground school until you have some hours under your belt.

    Learning to Fly Helicopters

There just isn't much Stan. The Navy should put out a Stan for it, not just Part 141 school. We used a Jepp syllabus, it worked fine, but the instructors also have to be standardized as far as what they're teaching beforehand, etc. There is no excuse to not reading a Cessna 172 POH before your...

    Learning to Fly Helicopters

Sounds like sh!tty instruction. I got EP training, was required to read the POH before my first flight, know how the aircraft "systems" worked.

    New movie out soon. "300"

Yeah, I thought Sin City was one of the most god awful movies I've ever seen. I put Encino Man higher on the list than Sin City.
  7. Fly Navy

    New movie out soon. "300"

That's sick. That's not like holding off waves of attacks with machine guns, artillery, etc. That's serious close combat.

    S&W Model 629 .44 MAG

Now that's pretty. There is something elegant about revolvers.

    S&W Model 629 .44 MAG

Shortbarrel, light frame .44 Magnum... eek. I shot a heavy 6" version, loved it. Wouldn't want it in a snubby though.

    Learning to Fly Helicopters

While a lot of people come into Primary wanting jets, you'll be surprised at how many change their mind by the time selection rolls around. There were relatively few people that wanted jets when I selected. Most wanted Helos. There are various reasons for this. There is also a no-sh!t cutoff to...

Yep, wasn't trying to say one was harder or better than the other. Just pointing out that precision is a facet that has a place in all communities.

If you're refering to the NFO types, they've been flying the T-6 for some time now.
  24. Fly Navy

    E vs F

The original system is what you are doing right now, select at check-in. Then they went to selecting after AWI stage. It then went to CQ/SFT. I think the system now with VFA-122 is the smartest. It's easier to train a guy as an E, and then tell him he's flying F's, than it is to train a guy as...
  25. Fly Navy

    E vs F

The new Navy plan is a Hornet is a Hornet is a Hornet. I could do my JO tour as a F guy, my DH tour as an E guy, and a CO tour as a C guy. Not sure how smart it is, but ok.
  26. Fly Navy

    E vs F

Right now, there is a big rift between VFA-122 and VFA-106 as far as selection for E/F goes. VFA-106 has gone back to the original system of picking E/F at check-in. VFA-122 selects E/F before CQ or Strike-Fighter. The criteria as I understand it has to do with abilities as a pilot, abilities to...

    Boston fans in Pensacola?

There is a bar in downtown Pcola that caters to Boston fans. Can't remember the name, but there is a Red Sox gathering there. Red Sox fans are everywhere. And for the Yankees fans? 2004.

    UAV "Pilots"

No no, not a transition. I said the Air Force program of flying a different aircraft in your career is neat. Returning to your original aircraft would be what makes that neat. For example, flying a Prowler as your aircraft, and then doing a Hornet tour, then returning to the Prowler. It'd be...

    A few System questions

I hated that question. Who cares. I don't care. It doesn't matter to me. Not one bit. Thank god I'm in Tacair... It's an old limitation before they went to 1015.

    Primary Gouge

Always always always QA your gouge. There is a lot of it out there and a lot of it is bad, outdated, etc. If you QA your gouge, it won't bite you, so long as you know what the gouge means.

  36. Fly Navy

    A few System questions

Say it with me: WHO THE FVCK CARES This kind of knowledge is nitnoid and useless. It's trivia. Tell me how knowing this would EVER help you in the aircraft in an emergency? Is this something that's permeated through the helo community? Pathetic. Real knowledge, actual systems/EP knowledge...

You reminded me of this chick that was on the machine next to me... on her cell phone. She dropped it and it smashed to the floor, she was all startled. I was laughing. Yeah, I'm a jerk, but she's an idiot.
  39. Fly Navy

"Army of One" to "Army Strong"
