We were actually talking about this today. The TH57 doesn't exactly set you up for success in the 60. Great VFR trainer but the stick skills don't exactly translate over when it's time to fly something with a good AFCS system on it.

I harp on this continuously with CAT1s. I literally tell them to just let go and stop screwing it up. The bird with fly itself.

-I always cleared the rotor arc before pulling off the GENs too. Not something that's in NATOPS necessarily or anything anyone ever taught me but there is that note about the AFCS kicking off and rotors dropping to 4 feet over the deck so I just don't mess with it. Wait 'til everyone's clear...

I will say this about my IFR training: it's saved my ass more than once in the 60 and I couldn't imagine doing the type of flying that I've done in the Navy without it. If nothing else, just the basic skills of scanning, trusting instruments, and translating that into not ending up upside down...

Really? I've had minimal EGI problems with the Sierra. Only 1 or 2 that I can think of since I've been flying it. I don't use it doors off. Only PTT for doors off. I use VOX for normal stuff like FCFs and Fam flights a lot though.

Way ahead of you on that one. I've found the duct tape makes little to no actual difference in VOX for me. The m-frames are legit though. a lot of guys like the ESS Supressors too.

Been doing it for a few months now. It's the ONLY way to fly when doing brownout. Doors off is the solution to brownout. We just need to lose the idiotic aspects of the IFC that require removing soundproofing.

In this day and age, it wouldn't surprise me if they tried to move a significant amount of it to the sim despite the fact that we all know it's not the same quality of training no matter what you do in there.

There's definitely a huge gap between CVN RW guys and Exp RW guys. It's pretty night and day. Most people just don't realize it because we're all "HSC" so we must all do the same thing but that's not exactly true. FWIW, I'm a carrier guy.
