That's pretty much how 64 is around Norfolk/VB. It's a 55mph limit but most people do 65-70 so you're about 5mph from a reckless driving ticket at any given time if you're going with traffic.

Yeah I should've been more clear. But other services do have dedicated roles vice the one squadron does it all approach.

My first CO was a lot like that and it was my favorite quality about him.

I don't know about 'more frequently' but other services have the convenience of having entire helo squadrons more or less dedicated to CSAR. That's not something we can get away with in the Navy. Not to mention that our primary focus is supposed to be overwater (according to the admirals).

SAR in general isn't something that happens every day. It's a contingency mission and a given helo squadron might only get a SAR once every few years (or more). Not to mention CSAR.

The best thing to do is to ask the guys you fly with in primary. There will be an assortment of guys from all of the communities there and they are a great resource for that kind of thing.

I've only seen the SOF guys with them. Honestly, I wouldn't want them. My peripheral vision is an asset when I'm landing the helo and I'm often looking under the goggles to help identify towers/wires or even just get a more realistic idea of what things in front of me look like.

The advertised number is 40 degrees with the goggles on. For the OP: Basically look through a couple toilet paper rolls and that's about all you you get with goggles on.

I'll echo what the others said. Waiting a few months to go to OCS is better than screwing it away by lying it getting hurt. You could also end up spending 3 months or more in H-class which is much worse than just waiting.
