    Prk Waiver-important

Google The guy that did my eyes was also a professor and taught other surgeons how to do it. Pretty comforting. Oh, it was the most expensive procedure they had, too.
  2. NozeMan

    Prk Waiver-important

You do the surgery and send in all the notes and paperwork related to your appointments. You have to have all the related paperwork on your procedure like your checkups out to 6 months, eye maps, surgical notes etc. Talk to freakin recruiter or something, none of us can give you the specifics...

    Prk Waiver-important

Yeah, and don't be a d!ck to those of us that actually have experienced this. I had PRK my junior year of college and got my waiver while i was in NROTC. If you want the waiver, don't have bad a botched surgery I guess. I had the absolute best people do the best procedure possible to me, I...

    Prk Waiver-important

Yeah dude, let the Doc give you all the possibilities. I was a complete pain in the ass about it w/ my eye docs, and I was a higher risk candidate. Hammer on them for any of your concerns, you are paying them a lot of money! Helps to go to a very reputable place too! My docs did Tiger's eyes...

    Height Restrictions for Pilot?

Keep in mind that overall height might not matter. It DOES come down to things like sitting height, buttock to knee, and reach. Just because you are the same overall height as someone else means that you will be fully qualified. Flight docs at a Naval Hospital or something similar are your...

    Height Restrictions for Pilot?

You will have to do a series of physicals for aviation cruises and for commissioning w/ an SNA designation. Plenty of opportunities to find out early on if you're too short.
  8. NozeMan

    PRK experience?

I went from 20/400 in the left to 20/20. 20/450 in the right to 20/25. I am pleased w/ the results and got my SNA designation. Only prob was that it hurt like a b!tch for 3 days.

    Spatial Help

No, I think I got 9's because I knew what the hell I was doing. Knowing addition and subraction, how to read, and some basic common sense helped as well.

    Spatial Help

Best way to do the spacial: use your hand. You will be looking at land, water, or a combo of the two. Let the desk represent land, the floor or whatever the water, and make your hand the airplane. It really helped me out when taking the test....and everyone in the office looked at me like I...

    SIG information

http://www.military.com/soldiertech/0,14632,Soldiertech_SIG,,00.html Article says lots of gov't agencies are moving in the direction of Sig, specifically the P229 and P239. Interesting read. Oh and Jack Bauer originally carried a P229, that should be enough for you;)

    SNA Competition

Yeah, I totally understand what you are saying. I still think it's pretty ignorant to rag on the NFO community, that's what I took from his earlier post. You're exactly right, not enough is put out there about the NFO community. Aviation just always seemed to get lumped together throughout...

    Super Hornet in Pensacola

I was there, looked one of the struts was burried. The stabilator/nozzle also hit the ground a bit. They walked away and the show was rolling again withing 30 minutes.
  14. NozeMan

    SNA Competition

if that's how you feel, I hope you're dont get to be an NFO either, hardly seems like the attitude.

    calling shotgun

You can get a nice, brand new Mossberg 500 for about 200. I was lucky and stumbled upon a nice, used one for 150.

new NROTC SNA and SNFO standards

Ha ha, good observation! Bottom line: don't suck at college=better chances at getting NA/NFO.

    Let's see your guns!

Ruger is an outstanding idea for a "cheap" first gun. They have multiple mid-size models in 9mm. compare their prices to any other name brand, quite the diff www.budsgunshop.com
  18. NozeMan

    Let's see your guns!

Sig Pro is actually pretty bulk, I'd say it's at least the size (not weight) of the P226. If youre going Sig, get the classic full metal frame.
  19. NozeMan

    Let's see your guns!

When I was shopping for my first handgun I was looking 9mm as well. Cheapest ammo (except .22) and effective w/ a good hollow point. I was originally way into the G19 because of it's size, quality and price. I ended up w/ a .40 P229 because I got a helluva deal on it used. If I had not found...

    PRK and a Contact waiver?

my right eye corrected to 20/25 post surgery. i had the waiver and am fully cleared for SNA. however, when I did NAMI down here in Pensacola, I was told by the optometrist that I have to wear glasses for flying because of my slightly weak right eye. no biggie, but fit to fly.

    Is ODU NROTC good?

Sounds like an intelligent decision. I picked Purdue because it was a 2 hour drive from my home....just far enough away but not too far!
  22. NozeMan

    Is ODU NROTC good?

Good call, NROTC is pretty much the same anywhere +/- some bullllssssshhhhhh!!!!!t (inevitable). The exceptions are the schools w/ Corps type programs like Citadel, VMI, Texas A&M, VT to name a few.
  23. NozeMan

    SNA Competition

in theory thats how it should work...in practice not so much. i know my old CO ranked us like that, but I believe a CO could give everyone a 100 if he wanted.
  24. NozeMan

    Is ODU NROTC good?

what he said, pick based on your school. Purdue NROTC may be the best, but really.....it's all the same. pick a college based on academics, not NROTC.....because that's just crazy.
  25. NozeMan

    Let's see your guns!

what would Jack Bauer carry? here's my .40 of justice coincidence? i think not
  26. NozeMan

    SNA Competition

I think your stats look pretty good. The good engineering GPA will help you out for sure, as will your PFA score and PNS points. Nuke looks more at your calc/physics, so that shouldnt be a huge issue. If you don't get pilot, NFO will be no problem.

    Questions on the Process

Aviation Technology was actually no bigger draw than anything else at Purdue. The reason why lots of Freshman ended up at that school in the first place was actually because of the Engineering program....aero, mech etc. AvTech turned into more of a "backup" when a lot of us decided engineering...

    Questions on the Process

Man, wake up. Your college has NOTHING to do with what your service selection will be. Specifically selecting aviation depends on your aptitude, grades (plus the point given for your major (eng, tech, lib arts etc)), PT and being physically qualified. Of course he has to make it all the way...
  35. NozeMan

    Questions on the Process

Right but having the major doesnt really matter. It's popular for mids to be in Aviation Technology, but it doesn't make or break as far as aviation goes.
  36. NozeMan

    Questions on the Process

Some basic quals for pilot: good standing in the unit, good PT (looks like you go that covered), and good grades. Oh, and do well on the ASTB. The ASTB, IMO, is pretty easy. Practice the spacial, learn some basic navigation stuff (for example, the Naval Science course require by NROTC at...

What kind of place gave you a military discount on it?
  38. NozeMan

    Questions on the Process

Don't worry about pilot slots etc...it doesn't matter where you went to school. You are ranked across the nation when it comes to service selection. Purdue is a good place to be. My graduating class in May sent 9 people down to PCOLA for aviation.

OH OH, I'LL TAKE THIS ONE!!!! That is exactly how I picked up my scholarship. Went in and smoked the first interview and then got invited back to interview for the ID Scholarship. When I went in the second time, it was with the CO of the Recruiting District (Chicago). My opinion, they ask...

    Kingsville or Meridian

The attrition rate brings up an interesting question... If your at Jet Advanced and attrite, where do you end up? Are you out of aviation all together or do you get to move to another platform? ...I'm not thinking about attriting.....not even classed up for API yet....

    Navy Approved PRK Doctors

It's not a matter of whether or not the Navy approves the doctor/surgeon. Since you're not already in the Navy, it doesn't apply to you. What DOES matter is getting the procedure done correctly so that it can be waivered when getting medically cleared for commissioning/aviation. If you're in...
