The scuttlebutt I heard was this: 1: re: RLP, the point scoring system has changed to something that I don't even understand...it's out of like 200 points or something. Like I said, it was done after my class team failed 100% of their next class on the initial inspection and spent the entire...

    sTUPID qUESTIONS aBOUT ocs

There is no "besides RLP." You spend every waking free minute (which isn't much between classes, drill, and getting RPT'ed just because) making your stuff perfect...then you stay up all night to make your stuff more perfect. It used to be -- as in like, last year -- that, unless you were...

Happy sock :D In all seriousness, things have changed a lot in the past year, so I guess someone new will have to chime in. You always go to church in the AM...then it used to be RLP prep from week 1-3, then you sleep all day in week 4 since you had about 2 hours of sleep that week. After that...

Bad gouge. Johnny Cash's are a service uniform as well...same class as service khaki and summer whites. To my knowledge, neither are going anywhere, as only the enlisted service uniforms are changing. The NWU is replacing wash khakis. That is all. You just won't be able to wear the JC as a...

    Self Defense stories

While I support anyone's desire to purchase a firearm, consider the following: Statistically, 90% of home burglaries occur while the occupant is not home, and most of the time the perp is unarmed. As others have said, you might want to look into the laws of your state and the repercussions of...

Looking for a female perspective on OCS

Maybe this stuff matters in AF land, but in Navy world it means jack shit. Nothing you do at Navy OCS will matter one bit toward your career. No one except you and the people you tell (people who probably don't care anyway) are going to know whether you graduated first, last, or anything inbetween.

The Great Universal Health Care Debate w/Poll (note: it just passed both houses)

Prior to entering the Navy, health insurance would've cost me $1k/month with a $5k deductable. I was 23, didn't smoke, and didn't have any illnesses that would cost the health insurance company boatloads of money. Yea, this bill is stupid. Malpractice is only a piece of the puzzle. Firstly...

Navy Working Uniform Now Authorized Off Base

When the NWU was first implemented, the restrictions on it were almost as stringent as poopie suits. Now, you can wear them commuting to/from work or to grab lunch during working hours, which is the almost the same as wash khakis -- seems like the higher ups decided to solve the "you can't go to...

enlisting first then applying to be an officer

It's a very stupid personal thing, though. The military structure is set up with two different pipelines -- enlisted and officer. Protests in Iran

It opens up the possibility for the Iranian leadership to effectively call the US pussies who won't back up their words. Since we won't, it'll just turn into a pissing contest that'll just conjure up more spirit among Muslim radicals. Not a "disaster" per se, but it surely isn't going to do us...

So if I read your post properly, you were arrested but never actually convicted of a crime? If it says "arrested," you...

Earning Warfare Qualifications as an Intel Officer?

I didn't mean to make it seem like shipdriving is the only part of the SWO qualification, but that's the most emphasized part of it. A buddy of mine's SWO board was "take us from Norfolk to the Persian Gulf...go."

Firstly, I never ran more than 2.2 miles while at OCS. There were two 5ks run on Saturdays, but I missed them both due to watch. Secondly, the run leader (usually a chief for the slow groups) will set the pace. Some run faster than others. Do NOT fall out.

I've been involved in martial arts for a large portion of my life. Every woman at my school was able to crank out at least 40 consecutively after a few months of training. OCC Fitness and supplements

I agree with this statement (and realize that the 50 marathons example was an exaggeration). The human body can and will adapt to rigorous training programs. I've seen a lot of people on workout routines emphasize too much rest. You do not need to take every other day off to avoid over-training.

Can you be involuntarily released from service?

As far as I understand it, OCS and NROTC officers used to commission as "reserve" officers while USNA commissioned as "regular" officers. Earning Warfare Qualifications as an Intel Officer?

    No malpractice for servicemembers?

That's what I thought when I first read it, but the article seems to outline cases not resulting from military service where a person was mistreated by medical and had to just deal with it. The scary part is that the people involved are still allowed to touch patients.
