Okay, sorry for the confusion. If you want to be a Marine Officer, go into NROTC as Marine Option. You will likely do a PFT during Freshman O. At least in my unit, if you failed, nothing happened at first. Marine options didn't even do the 3-mile run. Everyone ran the 1.5 mile run. A few weeks...

You will probably just do the next PFT (january?). You probably won't have to do remedial PT until you take the PFT and show that you are below unit standards. However it's probably a good idea to start going to remedial PT anyway if you want to get better.

I think the unit you are requesting to join will have their own application of sorts, but it's mainly automatic. Just let them know you want to do college program and they will sort things out and let you know what you need to do.

Get in contact with the units and see if you can spend a few days shadowing a mid to see what it's like, to PT, drill, etc. That should help you decide which is a better fit.
