NAVY NWU Type 2 and Type 3 - MarPat Style Desert and Woodland for NSW

Why do we need to have two separate sets of working uniforms, 3 separate sets of service uniforms, and 2 (soon to be 3) sets of dress uniforms? Would it have been so bad to just transition to poopie suits as the standard working uniform? Doesn't the USCG do this? Don't pull the "they don't...

    Insider Scoop on Navy OCS

It's not really "letting it slide." I knew nothing of the difference until our class LT instructed us to do them perpendicular to utilize more chest than tris. Too bad this was like right before the out PFA.

The Great Universal Health Care Debate w/Poll (note: it just passed both houses)

Sidenote: The thread title is misleading; since the bill was amended in the Senate to remove the public option, it technically hasn't passed both houses. It still must go back to the House and be voted on in its current state.

The Great Universal Health Care Debate w/Poll (note: it just passed both houses)

What reality? People were fine before social security, medicaid, medicare, a billion different federal agencies dedicated to digging holes, and universal healthcare. I suppose the best thing that the Democrats have accomplished since FDR is convincing the public at large that all these...

Anybody still think the economy has turned the corner?

Many unions have become self-serving profit groups in themselves. Their primary interest is the benefit and survival of the union, when they should be looking to benefit the workers. They are short-sighted and block any sort of progress in the company. Case and point: Supermarket unions. They...

Anybody still think the economy has turned the corner?

Random, I am not an anti-union guy per se. I hate what many unions have become, but as you pointed out, unions started as a way for workers to organize in order to gain better working conditions. They got together and said "hey, this is really fucked up...so we're not going to work for you...

Anybody still think the economy has turned the corner?

I disagree with such laws, along with minimum wage laws. The labor market is like any other market -- it is subject to the laws of supply and demand. If a company is known to hire workers and place them in unsafe conditions, less people will want to work there. The company will then have to...

    All OCS SWO - HELP!

I'm sorry, but this all seems like a gigantic waste of time. Firstly, this is an aviation site, so the amount of wannabe SWOs is going to be lacking. Secondly, anyone who finds your questionairre via the internet is already going to be interested in an officer program. People who are...

    Student Loan Deferment?

Yea, if you have absolutely no way of saving up enough for 2 months of monthly bills, deferment would be the better option. As someone said, though, you might want to look into the USAA career starter loan as well. It has a very low interest rate, and you can consolodate your debt into one...

Democracy at work in House of Representatives?

Well, that is done through our representatives when the SC decides to leave interpretations up to Congress (see your discussion on the "General Welfare" clause). You, me, and a bother of another mother can't vote directly on legislation, but our representatives can. The problem is that people...

Navy Poll Tracks Perceptions on Physical Readiness

Adequate access to fitness facilities...says nothing about the quality of them. I also call BS on the "80% of Sailors report that they always or sometimes make fitness part of their daily routine." Either you work out on a daily basis or you don't. There is no "sometimes."

    Student Loan Deferment?

Peruse Sallie Mae's website; they have a line about being able to defer student loans if you are active duty. However, I would advise against this because interest still accrues during deferment. You can set your bills to auto-pay while at OCS or on deployment.

Democracy at work in House of Representatives?

It's still apples and oranges, though. A sonar tech cares about being able to range and avoid contacts; he isn't concerned with things like getting to station on schedule. They also aren't looking at and synthesizing all the available information at once; they are just interpreting the sonar...

Most economists think Obama's bailouts are terrible, and I gather from your posts that you feel the same way. So what point am I making for you? Apples to oranges here. Democracy at work in House of Representatives?

Democracy at work in House of Representatives?

To be fair, the Supreme Court has left this up to Congress to define. Clearly you are taking an "original intent" approach to interpreting these phrases, but that is not the only valid interpretation of it. I think that the founders, many of whom were still involved in our Federal Government...

Democracy at work in House of Representatives?

Sir, I think you need to read my post more carefully. FDR is the only President who ran for more than two terms. I'm aware he ran for a fourth, but that is irrelevant compared to everyone else's two. FDR oversaw us come out of the Great Depression and lead the U.S. to victory in Europe in...

Democracy at work in House of Representatives?

We don't have an oligarchy now. The idea that term limits are going to somehow remove corruption in politics is a false assumption. Like I said, Congress isn't policing itself. You could replace Murtha after X terms, but the next guy is free to do the exact same thing. We don't need to...

Democracy at work in House of Representatives?

The votes in question on the video were blatantly not in favor of the Murtha's viewpoint. It's quite obvious that there were enough democrats that disagreed with the bill to expel him if they really wanted to. In other words, he wasn't towing the party line. He was doing his own thing, and...

Democracy at work in House of Representatives?

One should note that the Supreme Court decisions in the 1940s are highly suspect. FDR took more than a few executive liberties to ensure that the court voted his way WRT the New Deal. We don't need term limits. Congress has the power, per the Constitution, to expel any member for any reason...

Democracy at work in House of Representatives?

This "Parliamentary procedure" is not some gentleman's agreement between representatives, it's the law. QDR to Nix 2 CSGs

One thing I found interesting in reading the link is the "two front war" philosophy that has guided our defense budget since WWII. The reason I find it intersting is the QDR notes that A) prior to WWII, we did not follow such a doctrine and managed to win that war and B) it's extremely...

Here's my take: If men and women working together having relations is a "problem," then you need to re-think the entire situation. No private organization that I've worked for prior to the Navy has viewed this as a "problem." The fact that the Navy does is the "problem," and the only way to...

To go back to the "failure of leadership" line... So AW3 and AW2 are banging boots underway... we'll say it's failure of leadership and all that jazz. Now there's a change of command, and a shit-hot CO takes command. Suddenly these two sailors are going to stop screwing? I highly doubt it.
