    Safe for Solo Gouge

Don't nuke this, just show up to the brief and be awake. Not sure if Milton is the same as Corpus, but if it's even close you have nothing to worry about. I didn't even know there was gouge out there for the SFS exam. I think out of 15 or so people in my brief, a grand total of two or three...

FYI: Rosetta Stone now available on Marinenet

I just tried the Rosetta Stone demo disk once and it was phenomenal. The fact that it is free for you guys amazing, don't let that go to waste. Hopefully the Navy follows the Marines lead on this one.

Quick question about DOD Windshield Decal

I had to put it on in Newport and Pensacola, but the lady at pass and tags in Corpus looked like I was committing heresy when I said I'd put them on. Also, my tags are at the top and centered on my windshield because of my wipers fwiw.

    joining the military = selfish?

Funny, that is exactly what my ex said when she sent my ass packing before I left for OCS. I didn't get it at the time but put some thought into it afterward. I don't think she really was thinking about my family when she said it, so what I came up with, is that my girl wanted me around, didn't...

    A-10's For The Marine Corps

Probably one of the cases were it's easier said then done. I like how that article says all the A-10 "should only require folding wings, a tail hook, and a catapult attachment point" to get it carrier-capable. Even I know that's an especially shortsighted look on something that would be way...

    Primary EP's audio

A bunch did, very subtly. Nothing major, but you'll be easy to spot by an IP if you just say the old EP or leave out a line here or there. Jesus, no kidding. You F-er's are fast.

    Hurricane IKE

Power stayed on the entire time on the island and if it was going out anywhere, it would of went out here. It really was a non-event with the exception of a higher then usual tide. I don't think it even rained here.

Forum jacked up, or my computer?

Definitely a browser issue. Make sure all the add-ons (Java, flash, whatever else) are the latest and greatest. I'm using FireFox 3.0.1 as well with no issues. I had this happen to me with Hotmail a few years back. If need be, reinstall the browser again.

    How Many People

42%, duh. Seriously, that answer isn't too far off this time. About 30% of the people who classed up in my class didn't roll once and that was about average I'd say. Definitely not a majority by any means, but also not impossible. It really isn't a big deal, so you took 14 instead of 12 weeks...

    Another Experience At Vance

Not sure how it is on the T-6 but in a few Cessnas I flew, you had a VOR frequency to tune in, then a separate DME. Could be adventagous in a strage situation but I've always liked how TACAN gives you both DME and radial information by tuning one freq in. Other then that they seemed pretty...

Has anyone quit a job for OCS?

The first job I got after I got my degree was manager on the night shift at Blockbuster. I did that till I found a gig doing video conference monkey work and then worked both gigs for another 14 months to get myself in a good position financially. After that I finally found a "white-collar...

Has anyone quit a job for OCS?

I had a normal job nine-to-five before going to OCS. It was tough finding time to train so if you can afford not to work, I'd pass and just PT your brains out.

    earbuds for running - recommendations?

Phillips Whatever-the-model-number. Dirt cheap (since I can't seem to keep them more then a few months without breaking them), descent sound and goes over the ear so they don't fall out when I'm running.

How do I know if joining the Navy is right for me?

Going through OCS didn't make me a better person by itself, it was the preparing for it followed by the challenge that made me better. Do not think that you can be broken and that the military will fix you. Start the job, you'll then see that the military can help you finish it. You seem...

Age waiver for 29 yr old SNA?

Life happens sometimes. For one reason or another and often times fear of a drastic change (at least in my case) prevents someone from pursuing their dreams. It took me 5 years of getting my face kicked in by corporate America to make me want to go after my dream that I chalked up to being too...

Doubt it, your career in the Army will speak louder then anything prior to that. That and if it was a family emergency, just say that. Whatever board you're applying to will understand it.

    Thoughts on the T-34

All I can hope for is that the 60's vents aren't in "range" of someone who gets airsick, like the 34 where if the guy in the morning lets his breakfast go, it'll be blowing back on everyone else for the rest of the day.
  30. Morgan81

    Thoughts on the T-34

Coming from a former Cessna jockey, the 34 is a blast. It doesn't matter that it gets smoked by everything else in the military's inventory, it's a fire breathing beast compared to everything that 90% of the civilian pilots out there. Add into the fact that once you get the hang of it, it's...

    NSS changes as of 04AUG08

I've heard this from other studs and I don't agree with it. For me, knowing my NSS helps me gauge how I'm doing. I don't stress over it, but knowing where I stand just lets me relax. If you would rather not know it, that's fine but for me I find it useful. It's not like I NEED to know it, or...

    Career Pilot

If that's your goal then go after it and an aviation degree will help provided that means picking up a bunch of licenses along the way. You seem to be pretty much sold on the idea of using the Navy to help get time by the way your other posts sound. This may or may not be a good idea. Number...

Looking for a female perspective on OCS

Yes, the GI bill is available to OCS grads. You get E-5 pay while you're there but no other "incentives" are available barring the aforementioned program specific (I think it's just Nukes that offer sign-on bonuses but there are career incentive pay after a decade or so of service - again...

Enlisted guys are the trigger pullers for the most part. As far as I know, outside VBSS and SEAL/EOD teams, officers don't really need extensive firearm training. Honestly, I think there should be some firearm instruction at OCS. I've never shot a gun in my life and I know I could of used...

Looking for a Little Financial Advice

... because you'll never need them. I drive a Civic and abused it before OCS, putting 110 miles a day at a minimum. The thing is a champ, sips gas, goes months (now that I drive 10 miles a day) between oil changes and when I do need service costs about $40 a pop. If working on your car is...

    Vance for Primary??

Not according to about five or six IPs I was talking to about the T-6. They said the AF didn't want it since none of their turboprop planes have it so they didn't want their studs picking up any bad habits. Second or third-hand knowledge, take it for what it's worth but it made sense to me...

Barring some very unusual circumstances, the T-34 is still a monster no matter what you've ever flown before. From what I've heard the T-6 is far from perfect too. The 34 may be uncomfortable, look bad, smell worse and break on you every so often but its fun as hell to fly and you are being...

First off API is in NAS Pensacola, close to Whiting, but about 40-50 minutes away (never driven it so it's in the ballpark). All of the married guys in my OCS class had follow on orders to Whiting (saves big Navy some cash in your moving expenses so it makes sense) but there are some married...
