    CEPs?

I hope to God that this isn't a "whine" about 6 HR XC flights. If so, you have no idea how [f#(king] lucky you are… :)

Motivation dropping due to scheduling blues

Well, it's changed over time. On cruise, anyway, it used to be "Sleep until you're hungry…eat until you're tired."

    Skeeterman Returns

Relax, BzB…it isn't a PH..it's Navy Battle E Ribbon…apparently two awards. Awards appear to be in correct order…but WTF is the deal with wearing Dolphins on the other side?

army aircrew wing and navy aircrew wings

So far as I'm aware or have ever seen, the only "other services" insignia authorized for wear on the Navy uniform is Basic Parachutist and the Marine Combat Aircrew Insignia. Things may have changed. I also "don't know" about transition to NAC wings, but my guess is no...no more than other...

Just how intense is Navy OCS nowadays?

Wow…that's one hell of an attrition/roll-back rate... Yes…much of it is a "rite of passage". I do think I learned a LOT at AOCS that I didn't know before, but the whole thing about being able to "persevere" surely resonates.

The high demand for civilian pilots

Had that job as well..in both F-4 and F-14 squadrons. I never got shortchanged. Neither did anyone else… ;)

They broke off a lot when tanking from "hard-hosed/hard-basket" KC-135 tankers. Just too much of a routine FOD-hazard to worry about. I think the Iranians still leave them off. Same reason.

BIG CHANGES coming to the NROTC Scholarship

I know this paradigm is just foreign (no pun intended…) to our experience, but I'm thinking it's probably a good thing in the long haul. Not necessarily recommending it for the USN, you understand…we'd fuck it up by the numbers and disadvantage those who took that path.

Apples and oranges. Gilda was dropped from….what? 10,000 feet or higher? I don't know… Gilda detonated 520 feet above the target fleet, with a yield of 23 kilotons [think Hiroshima weapon…]. The next day, the Times carried an explanation by Secretary of the Navy James Forrestal that "heavily...

All? Congrats about the son…nice! Well, you and the son may continue to be frustrated…Most kids do well and get winged…a few don't for many various reasons. It took me probably 20-25 years of active service before I ever gave two hoots about strategic plans, balance sheets, income statements...

Not true. No one in the competitive pool you would be up against is yet what we would describe as "hot shit". You just need to be competitive and better than most.

The high demand for civilian pilots

I believe there is some truth to that in general. I don't see a direct connection. The needs of the service are separate from the needs of the airline industry. Go figure… Lot of questions here: Yes: military pilots are extremely qualified. The industry values that. No: I doubt that...

From the title of the thread…Yes…you need to wait. How are the kids doing? That should still be your number one focus…the Navy is no easier in terms of deployments/family separation. Can I assume you've had the conversation with the wife and kiddies? Make SURE you have NOTHING to lose. Many...

That's probably about how it went for every "sundown" T/M/S that served long and gloriously in its time. Not sure when the whole "Reunion/Association/Fan" communities started…they seem to be mostly post-VN era…but I get it. I think it's Ernest Hemingway who is credited with writing something...

FIFY. Don't believe me, because, thankfully, I was NEVER in an environment like that. But go read some MOH citations and the hundreds/thousands of battlefield commissions that came with or without. You never really know until you know… Now, having gone all "maudlin" with you, I do understand...

Updated list of things to bring?

I could be wrong, but it would also be "wrong" if the local cone-heads didn't accept "Certified/Notarized True Copies" of anything belonging to your wife…like a Driver's License. Yeah..can't see taking that away from her. Or a Passport either...

Would it matter? The F/A-18G is the "way ahead" for the EA community. "Learn it. Know it. Live it." ~ Brad Hamilton I'm not sure I ever met a former F-8 Crusader pilot who said "Wow…I really liked the Phantom better!", BUT…some truly liked the Tomcat better…because it, too, had a gun.
