    A-10's For The Marine Corps

Fratricide will always be out there but it doesnt mean we have to accept it. I would say that Falujah with thousands of tons of ordnance dropped in a 9 mile square urban setting with thousands of Marines running around and zero air to ground blue on blue illustrates that it is possible to neck...

    A-10's For The Marine Corps

They have a bad habit of gunning LAVs and AMTRAKs, Desert Storm and OIF. Personal opinion-The AF still doesnt grasp the fundamental premise of CAS as an organization. Even though we are all joint etc etc etc they dont speak grunt, dont care to learn. This personal opinion is based on...

    A-10's For The Marine Corps

I dont like JDAM and moving tagets dont work so well, great for fixed site kind of stuff. Big fan of Laser Maverick though. As for A-10s there have been some very high vis blue on blue involving A-10s and Marines I dont know any FACs that would put A-10s in their top 5 or even 10 of what they...

    Iran's Asymmetric Naval Warfare

I always kind of giggle when the Gator Navy gets scared of jet skis etc. They have a boat full of bored grunts, give everyone 5 rounds line the catwalks and threat is neutralized and morale is enhanced. I suppose that would make too much sense, kind of like evaluating ships on a quick launch...

Nope, the whole point of the UN charter is to prevent it from being able to do much against the victorious WWII powers.

Q: Best possible portable GPS to be used with FalconView?

Q: Best possible portable GPS to be used with FalconView?

I share the small cockpit issues with you. In 03 we were offered a very large tablet PC with a knee strap on it that plugged into a Garmin Etrex and we were suposed to fly with it. Huey guys with a big cockpit liked it Cobra guys not as much. Again the 396/496 with the 3" or so screen is...

Q: Best possible portable GPS to be used with FalconView?

We used the Garmin 396/496 in Iraq. A man smarter than I was able to download all aplicable check points into the GPS. The screen is very usable on a kneeboard and there are a wide range of mounting options. The battery seemed to last about 3 hours. The screen is dimable so NVG friendly if not...

UH-1Y achieves Initial Operational Capability (IOC) with little fanfare

Yes, they are called land mines and are nothing new. Sometimes yes, somtimes no. Mobility and survivability are always at odds and compromises are made. As vehicles get beefier they lose mobility. Watching uparmored HUMVEEs chase Toyota trucks and lose is frustrating at best. Carrying...

UH-1Y achieves Initial Operational Capability (IOC) with little fanfare

Chuck you have a bit of a track record with such posts. The Y does offer a few things the 60 does not: you can pull parts from a Y for a Z and vice versa. A dedicated attack helo like the W and the Z are in fact better suited to the attack role than the 60 (yes I know 60s are used in that...

UH-1Y achieves Initial Operational Capability (IOC) with little fanfare

Chuck I see that it is time for your bi-annual spout off of ill informed and bitter hearsay, was your Navy experience really that bad? There have been numerous procurement issues with the Y/Z program that are public knowledge. Better men and pilots than you from that "disfunctional" HMLA...

    Generation Kill

I think there is more than a fair amount of BS as the seasons progress. They got the interaction of Marines down (the reporter saw that) but I dont think he was privy to conversations between a Platoon Commander and a Company Commander. I was pretty disapointed in this recent episode in that...

Unfortunately the SgtMaj portrayed in the series though a caricature is not far from the mark. It seems many focus on headgear and haircuts at the expense of mission accomplishment. nfo FAC

On the Marine side NFOs and NAs are interchangeable in regards to FAC tours. Ideally a battalion will have withing it's air shop a skid guy, an assault support guy and a F/W type (anything from NFO to C-130 to Harrier/Hornet pilot). Not sure on the Bleu side.

Good story about WWII German Ace letting B-17 go

    POWs Tell Their Tales (Pensacola)

Got to attend the POW talk in 97. Raz Berryman, Harrier pilot DS/DS POW told his story of muliple runs from the same chunk of sky that led to TBS taught him to run in zig zags when getting shot at to less humurous stuff from then on. Great to hear and a bit sobering for an SNA.

Law of War/Law of Armed Conflict Discussion

It seems we are crossing the streams a bit. Proportionality is a nice to have and a byproduct of the current conflicts we find ourselves in and the touchy feely direction our society has taken. There is nothing in the Laws of Armed conflict that precludes dropping 155mm artilery, a MK82, a...

Monster Marine OCS thread: stupid questions answered here!

You could try it I suppose. I think any weight you put on will vanish in a couple weeks. As far as pugil sticks you will fights someone about your size (eyeball size up). As long as you continue to train smartly I dont think it would hurt.
