15 SEP2025 SNA/SNFO BOARD

Did you get an official pro-rec N or were you not at board? I thought if you didn’t make it to the board you aren’t even considered for a Y or N?
That’s the exact problem, I am both official Pro Rec N but apparently wasn’t even at board so my recruiter and his bosses are trying to figure it out, I think I’m the only case in their NRD in this situation…

I don’t know how true the 6 month wait is and what it’ll apply to… it seems that my recruiter isn’t too sure on that policy and just said he’ll process and resubmit my packet for March which isn’t really six months from now considering NRC deadline is around January 29
Mine did say I have to wait 6 months for pilot or I could apply to another pipeline within the 6 months. Per OPNAVINST 1420.1B you have to wait 6 months or do a reconsideration with a bunch of extra stuff.

Yeah I honestly have no idea at this point lol, I’ll just have to wait and see, if I can’t do March I’ll just join the May or June board or retest and go for a 9/9/9 haha

Everyone should go use this time to better yourself. Get out running, hit the gym, and study for the ASTB if you’re retaking it. Also go get a j*b if you aren’t currently working (it will keep you busy and make your parents happy. Apologies for using that word, I know it’s a scary one). If you can, go get some flight experience, it will be super useful during NIFE and primary if you want jets (unfortunately it gets largely overlooked by the board). We’re all gonna make it if we just keep at it. I hope I see you all on the next board thread. Don’t get discouraged.

I had a 55 6/5/6 and a 4.0 gpa and just got my selection. Thought my scores were too low
Can someone explain this to me? 4.0 is high sure, but obviously does not correlate to these astb scores. I am happy for you that you got the selection you wanted. But people with 9's PFAR got denied (including myself). I would really like to know what they are looking for when it comes to a package so myself and others can improve or do whatever we need to do to get in. I got a 52 6/9/7 3.21 gpa from a top 10 public school and no waivers, ex semi professional athlete for reference. (my recruiter did not even let me submit a package when I scored that low on my first attempt, maybe i would have gotten in..)

The only thing I can add (I’m not sure how much it counts) is that I did 8 years enlisted and got a degree in aerospace and have a commercial pilots license. Again. Not sure how much those weigh in on selection but maybe it’s something. I’m just as confused as you are.

impressive, you're already trained pretty much. that for sure helps. I had 0 flight experience, maybe the standard now is at least a PPL. I guess i have to go get that now. That makes me think, how did you get those scores then? The astb should have been a walk for you, considering you have a CPL, are prior, and OAR was a 55. I think this whole process is so unpredictable and unstandardized. Even the ASTB changes the problems it gives you, because its an "aptitude" right, but some people get basic algebra and arithmetic and get 8's. when I had matrices and linear algebra (for example). I thought i had my head wrapped around this, but I guess I just have to put my head down and try again. It is so unmotivating

I actually took my ASTB freshman year of college before I even started flying. Didn’t study for it like I should have. I didn’t really plan to apply until this summer and figured if submit and see what happens. I definitely could have gotten a better score but the recruiter told me to try with what I had.

I don’t think the PPL mattered tbh I got 174 hours and my PPL I don’t think it made a difference lol

Yeah it’s unfortunate, but one thing’s for sure, if we put together the best packet we can and keep trying we’ll eventually get it lol, they’re going to need more pilots sooner or later
the thing is, you can't reapply unless something in your packet changes. Luckily for me i have a third attempt remaining for the ASTB to get better scores then 6/9/7. But what if I didn't? Would I need to go get my masters? PPL? I don't think we can "keep trying" as much as I wish we could. I have always wondered, if someone with scores that are believed to be able to get a pro rec y should be able to reapply, because the boards go off available billets right. But I don't think that is the case, unless I am wrong. someone feel free to correct me.
