Is there any reg on the actual color of brown? The normal Bates ones appear to be russet brown while our G1s are seal brown. Where are the shoe colors found? Is there a MILSPEC for it?

Do you REALLY want to go there? Be happy with "brown"...

I just like to know the facts when presented with the "you can't wear that" argument.
So make that douchelord show you the MILSPEC…since he/she obviously knows and CAN'T WAIT to share...
Make him/her define the color in the Pantone Matching System (PMS) shade...

My new brown shoes garner a lot of hate because they're more like the brown of our leather jackets than the brown of the crappy shoes one procures from the NEX. I add it to the stash of jacket hater comments at my glorious staff job.

Not sure what the MISPEC shade may have been back in the pre-1975 days, but the shoes sold at the NEX were ACTUALLY not "brown", but a dark Cordovan/Ox Blood CORFAM shoe. Most fleet/cruise-experienced folks opted for commercial brown chukka buckle ankle boots, pull-on brown roper-style boots, or something from Florsheim, Thom McCann or whoever.

Those old chukkas look pretty sweet. Too bad we are stuck with low quarter oxfords. Ah well.

I still get an occasional "WTF are those?" or "Did you use black polish on your brown shoes?" when I wear my Allen Edmonds with Khakis. That being said, they are an awesome shoe. Highly recommended.

I learned a nice trick from the guy I was XO for…he always shined his standard brown shoes with "Dark Brown" or "Mahogany" polish. I, too, went to "the dark side". Great look...
I'll have to check out the Allen Edmonds…not that i'm in the market any longer, as you probably understand...

Those would work. I have the Leeds model in brown, but it's a slightly darker brown than the Bates. If I ever am wearing khakis on a daily basis, I'll appreciate them more I'm sure.

I'm considering getting some nice black shoes as well for the few times I wear SDBs. My originals from OCS don't look that awesome anymore.
