To answer the question.. FedEx is good if you like money and time off.. The time of day flying sucks but that's the only negative and the previous makes up for it!
I've heard that you dudes (and dudettes) also do quite a bit of flying during the day.

The current commercial EMS helicopter system is *the most dangerous* and *unsafe* segment of commercial aviation. If there was ever a commercial aviation segment that needed an ALPA type union this is it. It is purely driven my commercial operations (read "profit") and little to do with "service" or "lifesaving".

MDSP is the envy of for profit EMS and is the European model - ADAC in Germany, etc. They are a well organized, self preserving public safety program.

If you are a helo guy, go get your commercial airplane ratings, your ATP, etc and go do honest work of the airlines (like MadDog did) so you don't end up in a soul-less corporate job you hate with a bunch of dishonest self serving people, and you wind up at 51 wondering how you got into your awful job that you can't afford to leave because you have a kid with a serious life threatening illness who needs your insurance.

Go do what you love and fly. Whatever the cost.

Oh, and I just chased freaking dirt bikes down city streets, sidewalks, through parks, etc at 500AGL for two straight hours on Sunday night. Yes, I work 5 days a week, but life ain't bad some days.

Just wanted to give some hope for helo guys. Your life may not be glamorous, but it can be more interesting.

Awesome! I miss LE flying. Closest thing to tactical flying to be found outside the military. If the Helo life chose you, you chose LE. Good on ya.

Yeah, Fairfax County is looking for an LE Jet Ranger jock to keep the Northern Neck safe from scoundrels. It actually looks like a great position.

They fly bigger hardware, the 429. I think their vacancy is filled, though personally I wouldn't live in Fairfax for 50K.

If you wanted to live the trailer life you might be able to swing it, but I'm guessing your last name ain't Bates....:D

I own all the goodness or badness of my circumstances. I have a pretty cool job. Goodness. I have a very annoying ex. Badness. Both of those things are entirely to my own credit and fault. Not good luck, bad luck, or anything else.

And besides, I don't think they allow trailers in Fairfax.

We do, sort of. The reality is.. At FedEx you're either gonna watch the sun rise, set or not see it at all. Very few "true" day flights.. If it's true day it's probably a coast to coast flight which has way to much block time for me!

But that's true of most international flying, and probably most widebody flying in general, unless you're a hub-turning 767 guy.

You are right...the funny thing is a picture in the Alexandria Patch above the job ad shows a Jet Ranger...upon closer view it isn't even a Fairfax County emblem, just some ad filler.
As for $50K in Fairfax...it can be done...with overtime...flying on holidays...stealing the occasional meal from the squad room fridge...living in the back of your Toyota Tercel. It can be done.

Living in a van down by the river to fly a jet ranger? No thanks.
