Having done both, I will say both are very challenging . How many military guys have landed in a blizzard with braking action poor and rvr 600.

Yes I've also done 600 kts at 100 feet.

I try to give the proper respect to every working man and woman.

I'll never be the first to talk smack about another person earning an honest living, including airline pilots. It's only that SOME people, some of whom are former regulars on this site, acted as if all other aviation, from cropdusting to EMS to military flying, was just some type of minor leagues for "The SHOW." To those people, I give a hearty FUCK OFF.

To every other pilot, from bug-smashers to cherry-dryers to whale-drivers, I give a warm invitation for beers, anytime, anywhere we end up in the same place.

If I flew jets for the Navy for 10 years, what are the aviation job prospects like afterwards?

Is FedEx good?

Before the Mods get to you, I'd love to keep this thread open, but so you know comments like this often result in threads getting closed. In general, when asking a broad question ask "has this likely been asked before?" If the answer is yes, search for that answer. In fact, that answer is specifically in this thread, among others.

Second, while you don't realize it, you're coming off a bit like "I want to become a Navy jet pilot so I can become a commercial pilot." That generally doesn't come across well here, so poster beware.

That's fair. The reason I asked is that most of the posts on this thread over the past 2 years have been banter, and not career prospects specific. Nothing wrong with that, but it would be interesting to get some up-to-date wisdom from the older guys on here.

And if I come off as a kid trying to use the military for a commercial gig, I am sorry. But it also isn't entirely fair to make generalizations based off one question.

If you had flown jets for the past ten years, and weren't an assclown your prospects would be pretty good right now. I don't have a crystal ball to see ten years from now, so it's best to choose the navy if you want to fly for the navy, and worry about other career decisions down the road.

I think post people would agree that FedEx is "good"

As long as the industry is hiring you'll be employed. From early 2000s to 2013ish there was very limited airline hiring due to 9/11 and recessions, making aviation job prospects much more difficult across the board.

There are pluses and minuses to every major airline, as you get closer to the time you're eligible for hire you'll have a better idea of what you think is "good".
