My one issue with the Type IIIs is that I can not find the rank to save my life. Using subdued colors (black or doodoo brown) on a digital background just doesn't work for my eyes. At least with Marines, I can find the rank since it's higher, up on the collar.
My one issue with the Type IIIs is that I would have had four free sets, but some idiot contractor at ECRC insisted on issuing me the wrong size, over my objections. "But they're cut different . . ." Not THAT different!

I like how the RN wear officer insignia - is that too douchy for us?

Perhaps old news, but:

I just like the article title.

"I'm not staring at your magnificent boobs, I'm just trying to figure out your rank.....yup definitely saluting...."

On the Type III's, we should have just put the rank on both collars (like on Type I's) and made it velcro. Also, warfare pins should be copper colored on the Type III's (not black) if they are in fact gold on service/dress uniforms. And the new eight-point cover with an eagle for everyone is not my favorite.

Army/Air Force OCPs are super easy to see rank, even subdued ones.

Type III NWUs are a bad uniform, this is just a band-aid pulled from the Task Force Uniform's suggestion box.

The AF spice brown rank can super tough to see on OCPs, so there’s still the awkward staring at chests.

The solution to this is to stop muddling working uniforms and service uniforms and when you wear them.

The whole point of subdued rank is to comply with laws of war but to remove shiny targets and people getting saluted as targets in a combat zone. If people are more concerned about saluting then getting shot then they need to stop using subdued rank in garrison. Since these ranks are removable it seems conceivable that you could have a shiny one for when saluting is primary and a subdued one for when not getting shot is primary.

So now we go further down the road of looking like a Third World militia, instead of the world’s finest Navy. What’s next, mounting ribbons on our camo?

The answer is to shitcan Type III outside NSW. Underway or aboard ship, wear bags, the new fireproof SWO suits, or flight deck gear.

If you need something more professional, bring back wash khaki and either utilities or something derived from NSUs. If you need coveralls to sling paint, make them organizational clothing.

Ashore, wear the same thing, or wear service uniforms.

I still don't understand why the Navy has a camouflage uniform for personnel other than NSW or Seabees. There's just no sense in it. If you're on a ship, the ship is going to be spotted long before any individual onboard (and probably by radar from hundreds of miles away) and then camoflauge isn't going to help anybody onboard hide from a hypersonic antiship missile. If you're on land and/or in CONUS, who are you trying to camouflage yourself from in the middle of a parking lot when you're commuting from home to work?

USMC infantry needs camouflage to blend in with their environment. Army infantry needs camouflage to blend in with their environment. Air Force PJ's need camouflage to blend in with their environment. Navy SEALs need camouflage to blend in with their environment. All that being said, is it too crazy to assume that a camouflage pattern that disguises a Marine will also properly disguise a Soldier, Airman, or SEAL? Why do we need different camouflage for each service, camouflage being used in a battle dress uniform meant to get rode hard and put away wet in various climes by American servicemen, if the branch's service and dress uniforms are distinguishable? How much money has each service spent in the last twenty years on crafting their own camouflage uniforms when that money could have been better spent on more left handed screwdrivers and grid squares?

All that's to say that USN camouflage for the average Joe Sailor is dumb and flight suits are still cooler than anything else.
