I had trouble at the NAMI physical seeing the circles, so the doc gave me another test, and it was cake. No worries!

Thanks for all the info guys, I'll look into alternate tests...by the way...how many other flight/vision exams besides the flight physical for contract will I end up taking before NFO/PILOT? thanks

Depth Perception
I searched through all the threads and I could not find the answer to my question. I failed my depth perception test at MEPS. Today I went to a private doctor to have a depth perception test performed. I found out today that I do have depth perception but only up to 100 seconds of arc. Does anyone know if this is NPQ or what are the requirements for depth perception?

Reading through that packet I saw that says RANDOT to 40 second arcs. I presume that I am NPQ due to that. Does anyone know if you can receive waivers for this?

I failed my depth perception test during MEPS as well. I don't know what to tell you about your first results, but you would be a fool to not go to another doctor. When I was going to a civilain doctor I talked to a retired flight surgeon. He said if I didn't like the results from the first doctor to go to another doctor.
I had the doctor write me a letter and then brought it to the flight surgeon and had him read it. If he would have told me it was not a good letter I would have gone to the next doctor in the yellow pages. My first letter was good and I had the civilian doctor mail it to the MEPS doctor.
I understand how you're feeling right now. It sucks and you're probably worrying like crazy. Take a deep breath, relax and get some more opinions. What test did you take in MEPS and in the civilian doctor's office?

I just failed my depth perception test too at meps earlier this month. Went to a civilian doc for a cyclo exam and passed with no issues...don't sweat it the equipment at meps is old and you have to be positioned correctly to see that one circle is father than another....i didnt realize that but yeah just go get it done again
Depth Perception and Contact Waiver
I'm almost finished at TBS and getting ready to move down to Pensacola and I have a couple questions that I hope someone can clear up. I had my flight physical done from my flight surgeon at the squadron I was with (prior enlisted). I ended up being a contact waiver but otherwise quailified. While browsing this site I have come across two things that worry me. It's my understanding to be qualified to be a contact waiver you must have worn contacts for six months and be able to prove it. I've never worn contacts and rarely wear glasses execpt for driving long distances at night. My vision is 20/30. Is this going to be an issue in Pensacola? Should I start wearing contacts now? Secondly without correction I have little to no Depth Perception. When I did my flight physical I passed it while wearing my glasses. From information I recieved from this site there is no waiver for depth perception for a pilot. Is this the case even though I have no problems with depth perception with correction and Im a contact waiver anyway? If im gonna get the NAMI WAMMI I want to be ready for it. Theres no such thing as the contact lense waiver any more...
Oh yeah, I misunderstood and thought you were going to apply for one. If you had one before then you do get grandfathered in...
But I don't understand how you could get one without having worn them for 6 months? When I got mine I had to prove that I had been wearing lenses for 6 months, which I did by bringing in medical paperwork from my eye doctor from years ago.
I wouldn't count on grandfathering in. There was a guy at OCS with me who went NFO because his contact lens waiver got pulled after the program was dropped, even though he HAD it already. It sounds like you're 20/30 though so you should be fine without the waiver. If you need correction to pass the depth perception test, then wear your glasses for the test. Am I missing something? You sound like you'd pass just fine.

Wow... and I was pissed becuase I lost mine after getting injured at OCS..... that sucks.
The NAMI waiver manual says their isn't a waiver for the lack of depth perception, so I'm not sure if my contact waiver (or the wearing of glasses) is allowed to be used to pass the depth perception test. I wasn't even told that I had to wear contacts for six months to get my waiver, so I'm wondering if the Depth Perception portion of the test was conducted improperly due to corpsman not knowing how to do things properly. Does anyone know about this and whether or I need to prove I have been wearing contacts for the last six months once I get down to Pensacola? Maybe I can start wearing contacts now and things will be okay....
I went to OCS with the contact lense waiver but am now getting PRK, mainly because Im sick of contact lenses, but I just wanted to say that every depth perception test I have taken has been with uncorrected vision.
Since your vision is only 20/30, your not technically on the contact lense waiver because your vision is within the guidelines.
Its interesting too me that you only have depth perception WITH your contacts. Have you actually taken the test without your lenses in?
