I got question in which you didn't had to put any formula instead it was more by logic in which I got stuck

If you know the concepts and formulas, you can still use numbers even if they aren't provided. For example, if a question were to ask you something along the lines of "Gear A is the driving gear for Gear B. Gear A is larger than Gear B. What can be said about the gear ratio? 1.) The gear ratio is 1:1 2.) The gear ratio is greater than 1:1 (ie. 2:1, 3:1, 10:1, etc.) 3.) The gear ratio is less than 1:1 (ie. 1:2, 1:3, 1:10, etc.).

Even though the question doesn't provide an angular velocity or the number of teeth each gear has, it does tell you that one is larger than the other and that is all you need to know. In this case, you could simply choose 20 and 10 for gears A and B respectively. This same concept can be applied to many different questions. Throughout the course of my studies, this was often the best first step that you could take to answer any advanced question. "What happens when x goes to 0?", for example, was an immensely powerful and insightful question to ask.

Thank you very much for answering my question and for your advice I will definitely start studying that way instead of memorizing the formulas I would be studying how that can be applied on a certain questions.

Hey everyone! So I went in for my second attempt at the OAR today. My first time I scored a 47 and this time I scored a 42. I'm not really sure where to go from here. Has anyone had the same experience (getting a worse score than the first time)? I'm thinking about just submitting my package for SUPPO for the May board and then seeing if I get the Y or the N. If I get a N, I'd take the test again and resubmit. Does resubmitting look bad? Should I just retest before submitting?

Here's my stats for comparison: Big State University, 3.178 GPA, majoring in Exercise and Sport Science with a business concentration, amazing LOR from active CAPT, and so far, 4 pretty good LOR from retirees, actives, and current bosses.

Similar-ish situation here. Scored a 44 the first round and a 40 the second round. I'm not sure where I went wrong because I felt pretty confident about everything but that adaptive test just has it's twists and turns. However, my suggestion is to submit. The worst they can say is no and then you know you need to retest. But on the off chance they say yes (because the rest of your package seems pretty good) then you're good to go. Take a chance and be patient. In the mean time brush up on the stuff you can improve on in can you need to retest. I'm realistic about my boards but I'm also hopeful. Worse comes to worse and we're right back where we started.

Can you share any links to the mechanical bits you studied from AW? Want to make sure I'm thorough. I'm taking on Thursday the 2nd.

I guess it's too late to respond, but honestly, I don't have any new links other than the ones provided here. I did read the first 4 chapters of the FAA handbook though. Having no aviation background, this helped me immensely. Just relax and make sure you get into test mode before you jump in cold. I know I always do better on math and mechanical questions after about 5 problems. Good luck!!

I had several that had flight hours, even one that was a CFI, who took the ASTB and did not do well, the CFI ended up with a 5 on the PFAR, be prepared!

I did ok...eat crow, or whatever the saying is. Was expecting pedals and joystick, not throttle and joystick, my mistake. If I take another crack at this, I'll be getting a joystick and throttle...I'm no gamer. Had one other key mishap as well, brushed the trigger while reading the listening directions. There's a point right there. I was right to be CAUTIOUSLY optimistic. I felt prepared in my knowledge, not so much in my test taking skills.

My GPA is low (2.8 or s0), which doesn't help. Another crack at the ASTB could help. Crossing fingers on my strong references and previous civvie leadership experience and the immediate need for aviators will help.

Fingers crossed; I know I'm a better aviator and quite a strong leader. I know AW has seen guys go with all kinds of scores.

You are supposed to focus on the designated ear (left ear vs. right ear). Therefore, if the instructions indicate "left", you listen to your left ear (despite numbers and letters being said in both ears) and press trigger when an even number is said in your left ear and clutch when odd number is said in your left ear.
Thank you! This clears it up for me! My next question is this, can you or anyone explain the Direction Orientation Test? I had a hard time with this one, because North should be fixed and always be the same direction. I really bombed this section. "Which parking lot is East"?

There are some on there that can not possibly be right. Am I missing something? This is helpful though!

Send me which flashcards you think are wrong and I'll look at them. I don't remember any of them being incorrect.

I guess I really need this explained to me then. This definitely gave me a challenge the day of the test and I want to crush it next time.

What exactly are you having trouble with in regards to the UAV section? You mentioned "north should be fixed and always in the same direction", but that is only for the reference map. The other map is based entirely off of the POV of the drone. The target direction is variable on every question because the location of the drone is different in every question.

So if a drone is headed --> that becomes north? Correct? Then lets say it asks which parking lot is south it would be the one facing this direction? (<--)

No, if the drone is heading East, that is East and North is on your left but the direction straight ahead, as seen by the drone, is East. This is the first gouge I saw from another thread after a 1 second search so this isn't exactly a comprehensive explanation. Browse through the threads here and you will find a ton of great information on the UAV section. It's pretty easy to get a hang of if you study it for a couple hours. Look for the click method and the compass trick. They are very useful shortcuts to use when you're taking the test.
