China Maneuvers for U.S. Defense Contracts

My understanding as well. A good friend of mine spent the last three years in China building a power plant, and his complaints were always that they Chinese would cut any corners they could (which then of course the American company supervising would force them to redo -- assuming they found it.)

    OCS quotes

I was next door in India Four. GySgt Nyla had us say "Good morning" to the baby osprey for the next week after whichever candidate that was started it. I think some of us got a kick out of it, but maybe I was the only one.

F-35B/C Lightning II (Joint Strike Fighter)

The question is whether the rising costs and elimination of STOVL will actually convince someone to bring the program back. I'm not sure anyone can accurately predict that at this point. Especially looking at a smaller defense budget as the commitment in Afghanistan draws back down.

    DADT repealed

Hahahahaha! Nope. And I believe the president hasn't signed the bill yet, so it might be a bit premature to admit it if I were. I liked your question of Seafort better though -- "stand straight". I'm still chuckling about that one. Absolutely. I assume gays aren't going to start whipping...

    TSA or T&A ???

Serious question A4s (and apologies if you've addressed this earlier in the thread and I missed it), and without getting in too deep, but do you think that TSA is on the right track with their current methods?

    DADT repealed

Disagreeing with someone's lifestyle does not translate to intolerance. For example, I disagree with the gay lifestyle. However, refusing them rights afforded to others does. I can't comment on whether or not you are a bigot, not having observed your interactions with gays. But...

    DADT repealed

Since when did the term "government" mean federal? Last time I checked, government started at my town, and included county, state, and federal. The fact that gays cannot be married does put them at a disadvantage, because regardless of the term of their commitment to each other, they cannot...

    DADT repealed

I think this is exactly the point. This is a stepping stone to remove any legislation that puts homosexuals at a disadvantage to heterosexuals. Personally, I'm all for it. I don't think having a church bless a gay marriage is what most homosexuals are looking for, and I don't believe it makes...

    TSA or T&A ???

Why is profiling the answer? Our enemies will continue to use people who appear not to be Muslim to launch attacks on us. The reality is that as "hard" as the TSA supposedly is (and given the TSA employees I've interacted with, I seriously doubt that), attacks can and will be launched from...

    TSA or T&A ???

Here's what confuses me: random patdowns. Why have random patdowns if the scanner works? Less invasive, quicker, and requires less personnel. Given the quality of people working at TSA, I'd say that is a huge benefit. Maybe I'm missing something here. Given TSA's ability to solve real...

    Plc/ocs

According to the numbers from this candidate's juniors class and the supposed numbers from seniors, about 38% of candidates make it through OCS. However, about 30% remove themselves in between juniors and and seniors, so basically the top two-thirds of candidates make it through.

    NASA's New Mission?

I wouldn't bet on that last bit PhrogLoop. Places like Lockheed Martin are just going to be raking in more cash (specifically taxpayer dollars). I know a guy who's visited a sizable part of the world setting up facilities for communications satellites, and nothing I've heard suggests it's...

Stupid questions about Naval Aviation (Pt 2)

Not quite how it works, as it's more back and forth. I know there are people on this board who are trying to stay in the cockpit all the way to O-5, but I'm pretty sure you're looking at a minimum of five years in your eight year commitment.

    Red Bull Air Race Recovery

Easiest to see using the pause button, pretty tough to catch as the camera is panning fast. As Treetop said, the Harrier pilot turns the aircraft to the right before ejecting. The aircraft he was trying not to hit is nose towards the camera on the far side of the runway. The pilot supposedly...

    VTOL Aircraft Generate Wind...Who Knew?

I was talking to a VMM-266 pilot on the Iwo Jima today at NY Fleet Week, who said that the spectators were actually in a roped off area (it was one of his squadronmates flying). Unfortunately didn't get to see the Osprey flying, though.

Looking for a place in Naval Aviation, with a pretty significant caveat.

Just got back from MEPS. Longest eight hours of my life. Got a 9/14 on the PIP test. Got a 4/9, then a 1/9, then a 2/9 on the FALANT. Now, the thing is that I could tell the lights apart pretty well, but I was definitely stressing out about the speed we went through the test. My OSO has said...
