Living in Pace/Milton is a lot more bearable now due to the advent of Uber. A normal weekend for my roommates and I used to be drive downtown for the nightly shenanigans, leave the car and Uber home, and then drive back the next day for brunch and retrieve the car.

Corpus has everything you need centrally located and easy to access right off the main highway (SPID) plus Scuttlebutts on the Island if you're about that boujee life, and being a college town it has arguably the best happy hour/drink specials to cater to the broke college kid. Pensacola has better beaches and better roadside entertainment as it is essentially a lawless country, I mean you gotta love all articles that begin with "Florida man" cause you know it's about to be a great read. For me, Pensacola has Waffle House, Corpus does not ?‍♂️

Something going on in real time in Pensacola-Milton is the main routes between the two cities are going to be hella crowded for the next few months, ever since the new bridge from Pensacola to Gulf Breeze fell down last week.

Having lived here for a long time and through a few bad hurricane seasons, I honestly believe this will get resolved sometime around the new year, give or take. There's talk of reviving the ferry service between PCola and Gulf Breeze (bridge fell down in the 1980s) and that will relieve some traffic that's been displaced to I-10 and highway 90. I haven't seen it in the news yet, but the section of old I-10 bridge that fell down in 2004 was pretty quickly replaced by a temporary steel span (with weight restrictions), so I suspect they're looking at a similar temporary solution for the sections of bay bridge that fell down last week. Longer term, I think it'll be about six months for a proper repair.

Still, this is going to make it harder to get between one place and the other for flights, simulators, and social life. Most API students already have a bit of an idea- I'd watch the traffic on google maps at different times of the day to get an idea how long the drive is really going to take. East Hill to Whiting used to be about 45 minutes.

If you're starting primary in the spring of 2021 then you probably won't need to worry about any of this.

Military aviation/mil history-related tangent: the new bridge is named the Chappie James Bridge. Look him up!

A few weeks after I started primary Ivan hit and the I-10 bridge fell down adding a few minutes to my commute from East Hill to NASWF. Turns out it didn't matter that much as very few of my brief times aligned to rush hour.

That got passed? That's awesome.

In 60 years when the Whiting Q gets torn down, maybe they'll name the really shitty banquet hall they build next to it after someone other than a segregationist politician.

The grass is always greener I guess, I would kill to go back to living in Pensacola after a couple of years in Meridian and staring at a future that will be spent mostly/entirely in Lemoore...

It’s okay, you’ll get used to the smell of cow shit...

Del Mar and TAMUCC.

Show some god damn self respect. Austin, Gainesville, Tuscaloosa, San Marcos, Columbia (SC), Madison, Tempe, etc are college towns. Corpus Christi is not. By that definition, so is Pensacola since UWF and PSC are there.

ok, edit - Corpus has great happy hours/drink specials to cater to the kids on a college budget. I'll put it this way, if you go out in Pensacola you run into other military. If you go out in Corpus you run into college kids, people who work for CCAD, and oil field workers. Pick your poison.

TW-5 QOL seemed to depend a lot on whether you lived in Milton or Pcola. I get the attraction of being close to work but then you're in the boonies on the weekend.

Common pre uber saturday night occurrence: 1.) 4 dudes hop in a car in Milton and drive the 45 minutes to downtown pcola/beach. 2.) Drink faces off, and leave said car parked downtown. 3.) Split a taxi ride home, $20-$25 a piece. 4.) Next morning a different dude drives everyone back for car retrieval and brunch. 5.) Spend the rest of the week driving 5 minutes to work.

Moral of the story is unless the beach is a daily necessity in your life, living in milton isn't a serious drop off in fun that can be had in pcola.

1.a) Game of "pull on the seat belt" gets out of hand and dudes start wrestling inside car as it's going down I-110, "What the hell are you idiots doing and how did you end up in the front seat and him in the back now?"

Corpus Christi has the best sailing and windsurfing conditions in the USA. And I miss cheap avocados, and fresh made tortillas made by the local grandma at the HEB.

But I'll never, ever, no matter how much money you pay me, live in that fucking piece of shit godforsaken redneck texan part of the world ever again.

Pensacola? If the money and job was right, I'd go back.

If you want sailing and windsurfing go to Monterey. I'd live there again in a heartbeat.
