California just said their state universities will remain closed for the fall semester. Outrageous.
If I were a student there I would disenroll and go something worthwhile for a year, like hit all the national parks in the sierras and rockies. Online classes are not worth that tuition to be glued to your screen indoors all day. I only do that because the DoD pays me to.

Is a cure that kills the patient really a cure?

California also talking about keeping their lockdown in place until January 2021. Yet they are asking for billions from Congress for lost tax revenue do to the shut down while also giving taxpayer money to illegals. Of course Pelosi wants to give it to them Fuck that. If they stay shut down the lost tax revenue is their own fault.

The Hawaii governor and state legislature aren't any better unfortunately. They are talking the same type of thing although there have been only 634 case state wide and only 17 deaths. Yet 1/3 of the people are no unemployed - the highest in the country.

These idiots are going to kill more people with their continued lockdowns than the virus will kill. Soon the economic damage will be unrecoverable for years. Yes - there is a price on a human life and we have passed that price. Like I said in an earlier post, our freedom, economic prosperity and way of life are under assault. We are willing to lose life in a war to protect these - and we are at war.

California was fucked before the virus and now they’re committing economic suicide expecting everyone else to bail them out. Fuck California. And Illinois and New York.

I was just reading about the restrictions in Hawaii as it pertains to airline crews. Absurd that they have such restrictive policies despite literally the lowest rate of cases in the country. I guess they’re counting on a bailout too.

Pelosi's and the Dem's "Heroes Act" proposed Coronavirus bill... What a crook of shit and nothing but an attempt to reshape society to the lib vision while securing Dem votes. This is fucking outrageous.

- Adds $3 trillion to the national debt. Total of $5.8 trillion added this year if passed along with previous Coronavirus bills. Federal tax revenue was $3.5 trillion for 2019 and the Budget was $4.04 trillion. So 2019 adds $6.34 to the national debt, up from the current $23.3 trillion. An increase of 27%

- Shields any illegal alien from deportation if employed in an essential job. The way the bill defines essential job covers 90% of the illegal aliens. Also shield the employers who hired the illegal aliens. Basically protects illegals and their illegal lower paying jobs from unemployed Americans and legal residents who could fill them. Over 30 million American and legal residents have loss their jobs and it is projected up to 42% of them may be permanent loses.

- Extends all current guest worker visas and dramatically expands the number available. Provides jobs for non-citizens willing to work for lower wages while 30 million Americans unemployed.

- Expedites and expands number of health care worker visas. 43% of the 1.9 million health care workers in the family practice field alone have already lost their jobs. This number does not include the specialist and non-Coronavirus health care workers that have also been laid off or have reduced income. Yet Pelosi and the Dems want to bring in more health care workers that will work for lower pay.

- Require all government agencies and institutions to the maximum extend possible deposit their money in minority owned banks. What does this have to do with Coronavirus. Another blatant non-Coronavirus related lib attempt use the pandemic to change society to their views.

- Order the release of all federal prisoners with diabetes, asthma or over 50 years old unless it can be shown they are likely to commit a crime against a SPECIFIC individual and not just a crime in general. An almost impossible thing to prove.

- Orders studies on how to suppress "misinformation" on Coronavirus. I.e. censorship.

- Repeals the $10,000 federal tax deduction limit on SALT taxes. Since the majority of those hitting these limits live in Dem controlled states with high taxes to support their Dem social warfare policies. The majority people this actually affects are not the ones who have lost jobs or have incomes that would qualify for the $1200 stimulus checks. This is just another attempt to use the current crisis to further the Dem/lib agenda.

- Allow D.C. lobby firms to be eligible for federal small business loans. How does lobbying fix the crisis?

Oh yeah, Pelosi is calling the House back into session on Friday to vote on this. Nevermind conditions have not changed since she refused to bring the House back when the Senate came back. The only difference is now she's finished her pipe dream bill and needs to expose the House to those same conditions that were too dangerous when she wasn't ready to push her lib agenda.

Want to fix the economy and get people employed again? End this stupid shut down and open the economy back up.

Well the only way to find out what's in the bill is to pass it, right?

There are a group of countries opening up. Called the first movers group. Among the members are Austria, Denmark, Norway, Greece, the Czech Republic, Israel, Singapore, New Zealand and Australia.

It's a good idea to do enough testing, to make sure you are getting the people who are infected. With a tracing program and random testing. You do use more tests, but you find the infections.

Australia and New Zealand are not good comparisons for us...they didn't flatten the curve, they smashed it.
They caught it early enough that their community transmission rate is near zero...entire states are going days without any reports of new COVID infections, while NZ may become entirely COVID free. Their re-opening was also contingent on the population downloading tracing software (not mandatory, but it was a metric tracked as part of their decision to re-open to ensure a contact tracing method was in place)

Oz also has a very different governing federal-state relationships. They have a National Cabinet, where the governors make decisions in coordination with all the other states and federal government. Interstate borders are also very easy to enforce (inland from the coasts is basically unpopulated). They also only have several states...we have 50. They're also keeping international borders effectively closed. Reopening is within domestic borders only.

Long story short: Re-opening should be a completely uncontroversial decision if you have extremely low case load, which lets you test frequently to manage outbreaks, and you have an effective contact tracing system.

We aren't there yet, and we likely won't any time soon.
Bigger issue with us seems to be that we're half assing it. If you effectively shut the entire damn country down for X weeks, at the same time, of course your case load will plummet, spread throughout the country stops, and you then just have to manage small outbreaks from getting out of control as you reopen.
I don't know that we can do that...it's going to be hard to get everybody to agree to that. Because if you can't control it, a half assed lockdown where we can't drive the infection case load down to zero basically just increases the odds the inevitable flare up after reopening will get out of control.
The middle ground alternative, then, is a slow burn.

Fully reopening likely won't get us the full economic benefit either, as the % of our GDP from international trade won't fully recover either. Travel to/from the US and "clean" nations will likely be problematic until we get our case load under control.
