PC flight simulator for SNFO?

Soon I'll PCS to Pensacola to begin training as an SNFO. A buddy of mine has given me a number of PDFs and power points of IFS prep material. Any recommendations on flight sim software that will help me get a head start?

Well to start, you need to be an SNA if you want to fly. (I keed I keed).

FSX is pretty cheap, but most people here would say to study the beer and mexican menus, as well as the local bush of Pensacola.

Good luck on your journey!

Honestly, I can’t think of any advantage you’d get from using a flight simulator to prep for the SNFO pipeline. You would be better served by just learning the prep material cold, and then carrying that mentality forward into the pipeline. I admire the motivation, but balance it with an appreciation of your time in Pensacola. You’ll never get that amount of free time on the Navy’s dime again.

Any window you can reach with your tongue should work.
Bonus points if you can mouth breathe into a microphone at the same time...

You and I both know that NFOs in our platform can no longer reach windows with their tongues. Better gouge would be to learn the Boeing 737 oven presets. Gouge only - Beef/Veal is perfect for Hotpockets...

Its meat or veal to clarify...hence the need to study the presets. The meatball and philly ones claim to have meat. I've never launched a detailed investigation though.

When I went through primary ten years ago, I purchased a T-6 addon for FSX out of curiosity. It was nice and pretty fun to fly, but it had enough differences in the cockpit that it wasn't quite useful for checklist drill.
If you want to use a simulator as an aide to understand the basics of flight or make chair flying a little more visceral, I don't see problem with that, just take it with a grain of salt and be wary of forming bad habits.

Flight sim won't help you pass API. Focus on the closest alligator to the boat and for the love of god, study in groups.

Once you get to VT10 primary, steal the RIOT trainer from the academic building computers by emailing it to yourself or putting it on your google drive. Reason being, the site it was hosted on was old and broken (accurate as of Fall 2018). It'll make your life in the crybox much much better.

Edit: Try and get your hands on the API material PDFs from someone ahead of you if you really want to get reading ahead of time. The old one's are posted on the API site, but they were updated in late 2017 and the site doesn't have those.

Medium heat for 20 min works for damn near everything.
