Yes, incredible to look back at, but this was also a time when you could get astronomical rates on savings accounts too. It's all relative. Uncontrolled inflation (and even more so deflation) are beasts.

When you don’t have to worry about getting sued or shitty media coverage, you can be super effective...

I've never used rotor wash to facilitate behavioral change, as that was never authorized. However it was common to use aggressive "air shouldering" and could be effective.

Stupid question for the day. With all the shutdowns, will this eventually end up with guys getting screwed 10-12 years down the line because they fall into a gap where timing does not work out for them? I've read on here before where things that no one really had any control of came back to bite them, which always struck me as odd.

You really need to convert the '80s data to today's dollars if you want to compare.
According to usinflationcalculator.com, a $60K house in 1980 would be a $188,357 house today.

I posted last Monday...
The doubling rate for the virus is about twice per week, so we'll expect about 320 dead next Monday. (23rd)
We're at 417 today, so we're roughly tracking. With bi-weekly doubling, should be at 1700 by next Monday. Then 6800 the Monday following. After that, maybe the social distancing going on now will start to impact the growth rate? Hope so.

McMansions weren't really a thing back then either. 1000 sq.ft. cottages and ~1500 sq.ft. bungalows/split levels/two stories were the norm for single family dwellings. The 'burbs were a thing (I remember "subdivision" and "survey" being slang for new housing developments) but they were nothing like today's sprawl. Look at old homes in established neighborhoods- a narrow lot with just enough room between your house and the neighbors' house for a driveway, but not always enough space to fit a car and still be able to open the doors.

We've had it really, really good in the McMansion era from about 1990 to present day...

... and it just occurred to me that population sprawl is an ironic tangent to take in a thread that is about a modern day plague.
