Which watch?

Anyone have any experience selling custom watches, ones with personal engraving on the back and custom faces - i.e. Breitlings and Bremonts? Where did you sell them? Was it easy to sell? Did you have to sell at a discount?

I'm thinking of consolidating my watch collection into just 1 or 2 watches.

Crown & Calibre as well as The Watch Box are both good resellers. I’m not sure what engraving would do to the price.

I think your price expectations are high. I'd expect maybe 50% of the original price. I see GMT Masters for sale in the $6500-8000 range all the time. I assume by Breitling EVO you are talking about the Aeospace EVO. I see them in the $1800-2200 range frequently.

Very few high-end watches hold their value in re-sale. You buy high end watches because you like them, not as an investment.

You can try selling them on beitlingsource.com If nothing else you can look at their sales forum and see what things have sold for over the years. If you try and sell there, use original pictures and be prepared for some to ask you to verify yourself with things like "post a picture with the watch set at 10:27 and a piece of paper with the date and your username."

You can look at ebay for an idea on prices but they are often unrealistically high and many times the watches are fake.

There are other watch seller forums such as Chron24 but I do not know much about them.

If you use online retailers as a guide, remember they price high end and will typically take 15-30% off their posted prices if you call and negotiate.

Good luck.

You may be right on some, but Rolex prices went through the roof around 1.5 - 2 years ago. Maybe for older model GMTs, but new GMTs are going for mid 10s. Daytonas low 20s. New sub is like 10k. It’s crazy. Those are grey market prices unless you want to get wait listed at an AD.

When I called every dealer within 300 miles to get a GMT only one had a GMT in stock, and none had any other stainless sports models.

I’ll check out breitling source. Thanks for the gouge.

How do the Bremont purchases go? If I’m going to a new unit, and Bremont has previously made them a watch, do they keep the “plans on file”, allowing me to order a singleton when I get there? Or will I have to wait for a proper group buy?

If they already have a design on file just send them an e-mail and they can put one together for you. You don't have to wait for another group buy.
