In Snake's defense, I got picked up from the Spring 2019 board and was thinking the same thing. :)
Totally get where you're coming from with the Year Group spot though.

Since I meet several of the PA's requirements for advanced placement, I might poke around and ask about it. If I share my intentions to accelerate my training/qualification pipeline, might be a decent justification.

Even if it's just to O2E, it's 18 months, which could be another look at higher rank on the back end of your service. Could also be the difference between 3 years at O6 for retirement rank multiplier and 2 years at O6 and one year at O5.

Can't hurt to ask, worst they can do is say "NO!" ?
If the board was before April you will have no chance at all.

You fall under the PA that was active for your respective board. So no entry grade credit for you.

At the risk of eliciting more ellipses, do you know if 1840 is looking to open a reserve component at any point in the near future? Unlikely seeing as the active component is about a couple dozen officers, but just curious.
No. The Navy is not agile enough as well as is too short sighted to tap in to those of us in the Reserve who could easily slide in to 184X.

Moreover, the Navy Reserve is not set up to take advantage of most talent, let alone, 184X's even if they were in the Reserve. At least based on my observations over the last 10 years. It's also a tough sell to most active components to throw read-ins and SAP access to someone who will come in once a month on the weekend. And, to do what?

When I was drilling at C10F we tried for three years to get a few of us over to TAO to employ our skill sets. Even had a couple of TAO people in my unit trying to help facilitate it as well. There was zero interest from TAO leadership or any of the active duty Navy folks in that org. As in negative zero.

Just to help this along a bit...

I stopped by my local recruiter's office last week, and got copies of the latest IWC program authorizations, dated 5-AUG.

Those are not actual program authorizations; they are information sheets for IWC. Contains good info and some of it mirrors the PA. But they are not the PA!

Where are you getting the 18 months number from?

You are also incorrect about 2 years at O-6 and 1 at O-5 for retirement rank. Any rank above O-5 requires 3 years in that specific grade if you accept the appointment. You cannot retire early from those grades. If you accept the appointment you will sit in it for 3 years.

As I understand it, the minimum Time in Grade to go from O1 -> O2 is 18 months. I'm pulling this from:

https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/10/619

I defer to those that have gone before me for the actual gouge.

This makes sense and is good info that I was unaware of, appreciate it!

There is no Intel, IP or IWC FTS community so HR's (1205/1207) have been filling the IT role in the reserves. Most if not all RCC N6 jobs and IT-RESFOR jobs have been detailed to HR FTS Officers.

Sounds like the Navy I know, instead of slotting the proper designator and training pipeline for service delivery they choose a completely non value added cert.

And anyone that's gotten that cert is probably putting in for CW or IP anyway. Not sure why someone on a clear INFOSEC path would put in for HR, unless they were just looking for a commission and the other communities were closed.
