The PA just came out man...

Ask when the first board which uses this PA comes around...
You are right, it didnt come out in time for the actual April board. The September board will be the first to see this. The Reserve OCM stated the IP community will benefit from this as well, even though it might not be listed in the latest PA.

I'm curious, it does not appear too difficult to come in as an O-3... I wonder how much of a crunch that could put into place to be competitive for O-4 board?

They will be a very junior O-3 at best still allowing 5-6 years YCS before they are eligible for O-4.

This seems like it could cause some contention. What if you bring in people at LT under this program, but have people with better quals and more civ experience that were brought in as O-1s just a year ago? This needs to be well thought out.

Its all ready signed so it will happen. Just because you are eligible doesnt mean that everyone who meets the criteria will be selected for LT or even LTJG. It is only put in place so that it can happen. If you have Machine Learning and AI experience, make sure that it is highlighted.

At the risk of eliciting more ellipses, do you know if 1840 is looking to open a reserve component at any point in the near future? Unlikely seeing as the active component is about a couple dozen officers, but just curious.

You’re assuming every selection is going to be an O-3. Remember, there is still YG control so if there’s no quota/spot they’re not going to stuff someone in there.

I love you snake but sometimes you like to overthink things more than my wife does.

Fair. Between working in cyber security and coding for computer science, I tend to gravitate towards edge cases.

In Snake's defense, I got picked up from the Spring 2019 board and was thinking the same thing. :)
Totally get where you're coming from with the Year Group spot though.

Since I meet several of the PA's requirements for advanced placement, I might poke around and ask about it. If I share my intentions to accelerate my training/qualification pipeline, might be a decent justification.

Even if it's just to O2E, it's 18 months, which could be another look at higher rank on the back end of your service. Could also be the difference between 3 years at O6 for retirement rank multiplier and 2 years at O6 and one year at O5.

Can't hurt to ask, worst they can do is say "NO!" ?

No. The Navy is not agile enough as well as is too short sighted to tap in to those of us in the Reserve talent pool for 1840.
