Making Recruiting Great Again
I am graduating with Mechanical Engineering degree soon and was thinking of applying for EDO, and CEC. Does anyone have any extra information on SWO-EDO or CEC, not their job information, what's the competition, and acceptance like? My GPA is around 3.92 and I took OAR 3 years ago and got 49 (will retake it soon). With my degree, is there another officer community I could apply and have a good chance of being accepted (Besides EDO, CEC, and SWO)?

Ask your recruiter. If that’s not sufficient search around AWs and Google to help out.

You’re a Mech Eng so surely you know how to find answers on your own...

Currently on deployment and I am looking around but it is never a bad idea to ask again, am I right? Someone new or who just got accepted can share something new (maybe new instruction just came out) but how if the question is not asked again.

Hopefully finishing my OCS packet this week so I can get in for the January Supply and Intel boards: Had a quick question about weight/tape (I did try the search function and found some stuff but not exactly what I'm looking for).

I'm currently over the weight allowed for my height (female, 69 inches). I'm losing the weight but I might have to be taped.

Do you need to make weight *before* applying to OCS or just when you get to OCS?
Also- for the tape: is it tiered, as in they first do the abdominal measurement and then if you aren't under that they do the full BCA?

Thanks for the help and Happy New Year!

You need to be within standards when you apply. If you are outside standards, you are technically ineligible for further processing.

On that note, when you put down an OCS availability date when you sit down with the officer processor, I would HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend you put it back 4-5 months so you have time to get within weight standards. Do not put down "immediately" and risk showing up to OCS out of shape or out of standards.

Thank you for the quick response! That's what I figured anyway, I have one final medical appointment to fill in two boxes that were missed on one of my forms so I was hoping to get it done there. Thank you for the advice for later on!

Any idea about the tiered system for tape?

If you want more specifics for how they measure you, take a look at "BC Procedures for Women" on Page 11 of this document: https://www.public.navy.mil/bupers-...4- Body Composition Assessment (BCA) 2016.pdf

Hey, so I guess after reading a majority of this thread and appreciating most of the advice and some of the stupidity, It's my turn to ask a question.

Haven't gotten my Fin-Sel yet, but I was wondering how important it is to bring a drivers license when you check in? I lost mine about a year ago and haven't gotten around to getting a replacement since I have an expired one I carry around and memorized my DL# for whenever I need it. I have a passport social security card and birth certificate will that be enough?

Since this is a stupid question thread I'll ask this as well (pretty sure I know the answer...); I know there's a debate on driving being worth it or not (and since I'm from LA area its a big debate for me...) but say hypothetically my insurance and my cars registration were expired, would I still be allowed to drive my car and leave it on base/check in/ be able to drive around?

Think about what you just asked and what the answer is, it should be firstly simple. @Gatordev gave you a good hint.

To add on to what he said, you won’t be allowed on base if your vehicle registration is expired.

Thanks for the info. Sorry my question wasn't meant to be one of ethics but of economics. I'm trying to prioritize payments and choosing between what bills to pay and which to finance, and seeing if I'll be able to pay rent next month if I don't get a final select by then, and then trying to pay off car stuff after OCS.

Will definitely put off driving and try and prioritize my registration though. As far as a license goes however, I was under the impression you don't need to carry it if you're not driving? I have a passport so I do Carry photo ID with me, will that be enough or should I prioritize going to the DMV and ordering a replacement by the time I get my final select? Again i'm not trying to skirt the law, I'm just trying to budget for the necessities.

Most states will suspend your DL when you let your tags or registration lapse. Most states also hammer you pretty good as well when you try to register a car that should have continually been tagged. In general, the government is going to get what you should have paid, plus a fine. Same with the DL, to get it reinstated comes with a fee.
