New to the SELRES (was IRR/S-2 last ~5 years) and am going on 20 week ADT next month. Do I still have to fulfill an AT this year? Trying to sort out how all this works.
 
No, those days of ADT count, day-for-day.

Look for something called the "Force Execution Guidance." I think it's called the CNRCF 1001 note (Notice) or something like that. It comes out every fall and it says pretty much the same thing every year, for how many drills you can miss and still be a good boy and what all the rules and details for days of active duty.

If you're at a unit that drills at a NOSC then they ought to have it printed out and hanging on a bulletin board somewhere easy to find.

In practice, whoever is funding your ADT orders will probably ask/require that you use AT funding first, to soften the drain on their funding line. You may end up with two sets of back/back orders for the time period.

Although if it's to go to a school, that sometimes causes issues with quotas and funding, so they just let you use ADT-Schools for the whole time because the school house doesn't understand Reservists.

No, the rules do matter. But mostly as an excuse for the NOSC and other random bureaucrats to obstruct and hinder any attempt to do real operational work that doesn’t fit in their little box.
