From what I understand, logging on to this site confirms you are registered in deers. I checked it almost daily on my re-elistment after a break in service and was able to go get an ID after I could log on to that site. Enlisted recruiter told me you are certainly in DEERS once you are able to log onto that site.

But the other posters are probably right - it might be easier just to call DEER directly.

Since you don't have orders yet you are not SELRES but in IRR status in DEERS so you cant get a CAC but you should be able to get an IRR ID from a base pass office and start using base privileges as well as uniform shopping. For me there was a two month wait between this step and getting orders and I started outfitting uniforms during that period with my IRR ID.
 
The NEX uniform thing works. If you make an appoint at a rapids centers (just google rapids) you will be able to get an ID now. Once you pop up on the NEX uniform thing, you're in the "System" (whatever that means). Welcome to the club! Membership has its privileges! Faithful member here - 9 years enlisted at the end of February and waiting to PIN my butter bars right along with you all.

The NEX uniform thing works. If you make an appoint at a rapids centers (just google rapids) you should be able to get an ID now (I know others say different stuff, but I did it this way less than a year ago). Might be worth a call to "someone else" to confirm what I'm saying but like I said, it worked for me. Don't want to spread bad gouge - or rumint - I'm not counter intel (I made joke). Once you pop up on the NEX uniform thing, you're in the "System" (whatever that means). Welcome to the club! Membership has its privileges! Faithful member here - 9 years enlisted at the end of February and waiting to PIN my butter bars right along with you all.

Just general commentary for those reading. The NEX uniform portal is hitting DEERS which is where your DOD digital identity originates from. When you log into that uniform section it is hitting DEERS and validating if you exist in the proper status. When you onboard as DCO your first status is IRR because you have not been gained into a paid status via your NOSC and had initial IAP orders cut. At this point, you can get an IRR ID and use base privileges. When your IAP orders are cut ( for me it was a few months later) you will change from IRR to SELRES and can get a CAC and start using other access types (mainly IT related)

If you want to log into DEERS and see your status now click the new user in the top right corner of MilConnect and create a DS Login.

While your at it create a Troop ID at ID.me as well, that is a growing military authentication/validation service on the commercial side.

Thanks for chiming in AMGunner - I know people know stuff about getting ID's, Selres, IRR, ect... that I don't know.

I encourage anyone new to the Navy to try to get a military ID of any kind as soon as they are eligible to get one. Even if it means you have to get the CAC one later (for what it is worth - I was able to get the CAC ID after popping up in NEX no snags - but I was enlisting after a seven year break in service - who knows - maybe there's something that distinguishes me from others). I'm still waiting to get an Officer ID - but I have not been released from my enlistment yet and have not commissioned.

Getting the ID - aside from being cool because it feels real and things start moving - is a major step. You need that ID to anything and everything.

If you can obtain a Military ID before your first drills - I highly encourage you to do it. I was able to. It will make you entry into the reserve infinitely more simple.

The NOSC and computer stuff is a lot to get used to for anyone. The ID will make a very, very, slow process seem just very slow.

You can't even drive through a gate to get on a base without an ID. You will get onto base eventually without one on someone else's time - but everything is a start stop - if that makes sense. If you get an ID you can at least move freely on base, buy a pen and paper at the exchange because an ID is required to by stuff ect...

Good luck to all! If you have a little time to waste in case the ID thing doesn't work out - I'd say try to get one. If you succeed - you will stand around and wait a little less when you do finally show up to drill. An ID lets you do a lot without having to ask someone else that has one - can you take more over there to get what I need because I don't have an ID yet.

Hang in there! It's a weird process but it works.

Last piece on the ID/NEX/Orders thing that I can think of - Some of you might have orders already to Selres and not know it.

You will eventually get a copy of any Orders that pertain to you. It may not be until you go to a drill weekend that you get them.

It is not supposed to go that way - you are supposed to get your Orders in hand and report with them - that being said - I've reported without orders more times than I've reported with them.

Hopefully - you get the Orders in hand before you go - but you might already have orders now, in which case - you can get a CAC ID.

Orders are distributed through RFMT (CAC enabled; email cert). For folks without a CAC, they have to rely on others to get them a copy. The NOSC admin folks should be able to take care of this
 
Very long process, educational, and had high hopes. Just found out I will not be able to continue... failed the hearing test by 5db in the left ear. Limit at 4K is 55db and I’m at 60db. Was denied a waiver, therefore I can’t get the N33.

update:
My package has been sent to the NOSC - the NOSC sent it for guidance(?) and has been returned back. When the clerk was finishing the process there seems to be a glitch and it wont finalize. They seem to think they will figure it out and I should be gained this week. INDOC is at the end of this month, so I am on track to 1st drill at INDOC weekend at the NOSC. Ive received a welcome aboard document or email from my unit, the region, and the NAVFORRES. Supposedly the NOSC will send a welcome aboard email with orders/details for the 1st drill INDOC weekend and copy my unit.
