- Prior Service US Marine
- BS Oceanography/Meteorology gpa 2.8 (not good i know)
- Professional work experience as a geologist
- 27 years old
- Currently in grad school for masters in Oceanography

I was wondering what the consensus thought of these scores....
6/6/6 and 61

I also heard a rumor Aviators are in high demand? Any thoughts?

Hey I'm in the same boat. Similar GPA and scores. My recruiter seems optimistic. Are you going Navy or Marine Corps? A buddy of mine from the Marine Corps told me that they are lowering physical fitness standards for OCS just to get more pilots, but I haven't heard if the navy is in need of pilots too.

Done with the Marine Corps... Navy all day. Lowered physical standards because I heard a lot of guys were failing in flight school. This is rumored to be same for navy. Only difference is PFT is needed for a pilot seat with the Navy.

apply see what happens.

the billets needed hasn't changed, what has is the requirements to apply, so many of those that would get flushed out after pro Y but before OCS now are flushed out before the board, that has resulted in higher selection rate of those that have gone to board.

Hey guys this is my first post!! Been reading a whole lot on this. I've already taken the ASTB twice and I feel frustrated. My scores are extremely low compared to what I keep seeing that you are all achieving (congrats btw). My first time I didn't study (my mistake) and got a 31 OAR and 2/3/4. Second time I studied about a month and received OAR 39 3/4/3... Im beginning to think I wasn't cut out for this :(

Hey don't get down on yourself man. Keep on studying. Are you currently in college? Also, Prepare yourself for the UAV and dichotic portions now that you know what to expect. I took it once but studied for over two months. Let me know if you have any questions. I got a 56 6/5/5 and might test again.

Yeah, I'm currently in my last semester of college. Is there like a trick to those parts? I ask since I thought I did great on those sections...but apparently not.

same rumor happens every year, but surprisingly the billets for SNA don't go up anything significant.

Take advantage of free tutoring for whatever section you struggle with the most for the OAR. I didn't understand the compass trick for the UAV part until half way through the test so look that up on the forum and if you need practice examples I could PM some. The joystick and throttle section just are tricky no matter what you do. I mainly focused on the joystick target and kept the throttle target in the corner of my eye and would look over every couple seconds just to make sure I wasn't screwing up. I also suggest that you tilt your head for which ear you're listening for.

I took the ASTB for the first time in December literally 2 days after my last college final, so I only had a cumulative study time of about 12 hours. I didn't get to use any complete study guides like Barron's, just study guides I found on sites like this and YouTube tutorials to brush up on the mechanical and math sections. I'm applying for SWO and IDC so I only have an OAR score. It was the computer format of the test, so you don't know exactly how many questions you will have in each subtest. I felt like I was doing well in math, but the test ended after literally 9 questions (I thought I broke the system or something). Then the reading section was somewhat different from practice tests I had taken, so I was somewhat panicky and the time ended up expiring before I finished with those questions. I finished the mechanical section on time, but I had no idea how I did (I don't have a STEM degree). I honestly felt like I did terrible on the test until I saw "59" on the screen.

I just want to encourage those taking the ASTB soon to study as much as possible and be prepared to adapt if the test ends up being slightly different than you expected. And RELAX, you're probably doing better than you think you are.

I took the ASTB second time: 51 6/7/5

I kind of freaked out during the reading and mechanical subtests and ran out of time, probably explains why my score went down from 57.

I'm disappointed because I was looking to get a higher score to be competitive for SNA since my PFAR score last time was 6. I sacrificed my academics a bit and studied a lot for the PBM/joystick part of the exam.

Any advice ya'll got for my third (last) attempt? I'm worried since I only got one more chance. Is the GRE math a good way to improve knowledge for the math section?

I've taken it once and got a 56 6/5/5 my recruiter says I'm good to go and shouldn't "need" to test again, so honestly talk with your OR because a 7PFAR is competitive. If you do want to study for the math I'd suggest khan academy first, and if you're still in college use a tutor.
