FY 2016 STA-21 Applicants

FY-16 CORE SELECT
There was an ND2 Glennon who was picked up for CORE last year. I would expect him to be a SPECWAR/EOD Candidate. Maybe you should attempt contact through social media.

If this is true. I think next year im going to just apply for core. But dont they fraun upon that?
I don't know who you are referring to "frowning" upon it. It's an option that's available. I had VERY good interviews with SEAL officers as well as EOD officers. It doesn't really bother me if someone other than the board doesn't agree with it. If I'm picked up, I'll go to BUD/s or EOD school just like anyone else, ya know? Which program are you applying for and what's your rate?

Why wouldn't you apply for your primary and then select CORE as your secondary?

That way you have TWO chances at selection......

Was that question for me? I can't choose SPECWAR as a primary since I don't have the rate....Core is really my only option. I know you know that so maybe the question wasn't for me lol

I'm talking for Carlos.
I did apply for nfo, but ever sence AT's have been given the opportunity to work within the NSW community supporting with UAVs i've wanted to go that route. That is only an enlisted thing as fas as i know. Nfo selection is just as slim as cec for sta21. And after looking at most of these guys stats, i have alot of work. My age is not really agreeing with me. Ccfite, is specwar officers the only designation that works within that community?

By frowning i ment, does the board dislike it. I was told by my old CO that they might. Who knows

Carlos....think about what he put in his personal statement. Why would they discredit a member for pursuing his dream, when he is not eligible to apply for the SPECWAR option?
No one at the board will "not like that". And even if he isn't selected as a SPECWAR before graduation he could also be a Pilot, NFO, Sub, or SWO. The Navy gains a prior enlisted officer either way with a CORE selectee.

I think it was smart of him to select CORE as his primary.

I think you guys misunderstood me, im not saying anything about not following his dream. Im just asking you guys opinion on how valid the information that was past down to my by an officer might be. Sorry if what i said sounded the other way. Definitely did not mean it to. My first time applying three years ago was just core for that exact reason. I thought maybe that was a big reason for not getting selected. Ive wanted to be associated with nsw for a long time now, more importantly as an officer.

Reading what i said early does seem a little misleading. I apologize.

Does anyone have any knowledge on statistics of Sailors getting picked up for Core (SO or EOD)? I'm an HM with lots of NSW experience but am looking to make this enormous transition. First and foremost, I want the commission. I know it's risky but it will be worth it. Anyway, anyone have knowledge on that?

EOD changed things up a bit around a year ago, not sure if it applies to all commissioning paths but they were going to start taking EOD officers only from those that had prior EOD experience. A SEAL officer I know said about 5 officers he was going through SEAL training with that were coming up just a bit short were offered opportunities to switch to EOD and they did.

The crappy part is around 70% of those that attempt SEAL training as officers don't make it, and generally if you don't make it, you go home, you don't get redesignated.
