Very great gouge! Thanks. Autopilot/flight guidance/fms are something's learned early on? Or is it sometime after contacts?

You get some in contacts but it's not expected. The sim instructors do a great job of explaining it before the plane in ri sims. As was said before if you know eps, limits, and can get through the ground ops relatively quick you'll be fine.

Load every approach you shoot in the FMS and direct your instructor to bring up 120 Map mode. Way better SA than the MFD. It definitely sucks learning all that crap, but the sooner you do it the better. Getting the A/P to fly for you in review stage is clutch while handling complex EPs.
You're saying to even load the Vor A in the fms? And glance at the IPs pfd in 120 mode for sa?
Agree with you on the A/P, I can already see the task saturation with minor eps. Thanks sir.

Is there a cockpit poster of the T44c? It would be nice to have while going over checklist. Never seen the actual switches up close, since I haven't made it to Corpus yet

Correct. I mean, if you've got time. If you're getting vectored around the valley and you've got some fire in the helmet then all you really need is a Navaid, approach course, and mins. Good luck bro, you'll get it. If you've got any questions feel free to shoot me a PM.

Don't forget about Wing X Pro 7 for the Ipad. It has everything foreflight does except they waive the annual fee for military. Just send there customer support an email from your .mil address and they'll send you an account access code.

The main reason I haven't bought an iPad yet is the cost of the ForeFlight subscription. I may have to buy one now.

I use Garmin Pilot on my Android devices...same price as ForeFlight without having to buy a stupid iPad

Do a lot of guys use ForeFlight in the airlines?
Our current FAA approval has us just using our company Ipads for pubs and approach plates. We use JeppTC-PRO that auto updates all our approach plates and company specific items. Then we have a company specific app that maintains our aircraft/company publications. That has been a little tiresome lately since it kept deleting bookmarks, but now seems to be working well with transferring them properly. We also have a weather application (WSI Pilotbrief Optima) that I will update and download weather before a trip, it will save all of it and overlay your flight plan.

We are required to close all extraneous apps and turn off wifi 10 minutes prior to pushback. Last time I was in the school house, the next iteration will be a hardware upgrade to the latest ipad later this year/early next year. Then we should see paper charts and 10-1 pages included on the ipad which would get rid of that extra paper that we lug around (which honestly isn't that much). I don't know if I am eager to go fully electronic with the charts, I have most of mine to south America marked up with frequencies, notes, and highlights to diverts. Maybe if the new program allows the same degree of notes I would be happy with it, time will tell.

I don't think we have a moving map option anywhere in our future with the ipad, since we are required to have the connectivity turned off. But I could be mistaken.

I've been an iPad user for about 4 years. I don't know what I'd do without it, frankly. It has changed the way I travel - no laptop required and all my books/media are on it.
Concur completely!

Ipad + VPN + Netflix/Xfinity, makes my trips much more enjoyable. Lounging poolside reading a book a drinking a tasty beverage on layovers is not too bad.

Depending on how the software the software is set up, you may not need connectivity. Foreflight, for example, lets you pull down the charts ahead of time and then you can just use the built in GPS to get real-time updates (assuming you can receive the signal through whatever cockpit you're in).

I'm not completely sold on all digital charts either, mostly because I'm not as familiar with Foreflight as I am with just breaking out a plate or chart really quickly, but that comes with practice. Probably the biggest additional nice-to-have is interfacing with an ADS-B access point via WiFi (I know not really relevant for you, John). Getting real-time weather and real-time MODE 3/C targets is a definite SA builder.

Contacted wing X pro 7. Process was simple to get the annual fee waived. I must say after watching the YouTube videos and playing around on the app, it's unbelievable what it can do. User friendly and the weather updates frequently. It has all the updated information one would need. I never tried out Foreflight, but I recommend giving this app a try. The first 30 days are free for anyone who would want to try it out before committing

When I arrived, there was one spot open for vt35. This other guy and I put our names in a hat. My name came out and now I'm in 35. Talked with a couple different instructors about the iPad. Some care, others don't. They all encourage me to bring it as a back up either way, but they were 50/50 on if they allow students to use them "while flying"
