[Video]Group French Navy Pilots

Some great shots in there! I know the us navy does exchange flights w/ the French where we land on their deck and they land on ours sometimes...makes me wonder if they had to go old school and use the sling to shoot our birds off? Anyone know?
 
The sling is just for the super etendards. The rafales in the video have the same setup that we do, and there would be no way to connect the harness to our jets.
 
This brings a history nerd question to mind; maybe the old guys know. What was the story behind the bridle to launch bar/tow link switch? Was there a mishap or series thereof that caused it, or did some engineer just go "hey, this is a better idea?"
