WAITING GAME AFTER BOARD CONVENE DATE

Hey y'all,

Just curious, and sorry in advance if this was asked elsewhere, but after receipt of an OCS package submission, how do you?

-Know if it went to a/which board, if those boards convened as scheduled?
-How long does it take after the board convene date to hear back?
-What exactly is a PRO-REC, and without bupers, how do you know, and again how long?
-Any other general stuff that OCS hopefulls like me should know after submitting our APP into what feels like the void.

Hope this can generate some good gouge, and although it may appear I'm overly impatient, I'm not.
I'm just curious, and I know alot of people have the exact same questions as me.

Thanks,
Joe

Patience in all things. That's the very best "gouge" I can offer.

I understand your curiosity…but you are one of many in a very large pool of applicants, in a "buyer's market", and in a complex selection process in which each of you/them will need to be considered…racked and stacked…rejected/selected, etc.

If you don't understand what "PRO-REC" or other terms mean…well, that's really on you.

Pro rec. means you have been recommended for final selection. That will come with you have been pq'd by N3m and you have been through the Nasis (security clearance) process. Once NRC has verified all the checks, they will generate a select letter that will allow the NRD to generate your enlistment docs. You enlist for pay reasons for OCS. You are not obligated to the Navy until you graduate OCS. It all takes time. Stay in shape, start memorizing OCS info and stay out of trouble. I've had applicants that complete the kit and ship to OCS within four months (quickest was a nuke, and 1 month). But that being said, I've worked with people for YEARS ( longest OCS wait time was two years....). It is in your best interest to submit as fast as you can but ensuring it is a quality kit.

Once a board meets, typically results are out within a week or two.

DIVO, any clue what's going on with the DA MSC boards this year? There's a group of us that have been in complete darkness regarding this board, and we'd all like to have some type of information on what the cause of the delay is. Any info would help relax the minds of us anxious applicants, thanks!

Hi DIVO,

I know there a number of questions about the different boards out there but I was just echoing MSCHCA and was wondering if you might have heard anything about the DA MSC board. Thanks for any more insight.

DA MSC boards -- they have had several this FY already.

Closed -HCA, Biochem, Micro Bio, MEDTECH, Social Work, PT, OPT Ometry, Pham
Everything else is still open for now.

Next board will be dependent on number of packages. But they seem to be slow on releasing results.

Follow up question: Can applicants be given an "alternate" selection and not really be a true alternate. What I mean is, I think that I may have been given an alternate selection because the accession plan hadn't been signed and released yet; however, now that it has been released, will I stay as an true alternate and wait until someone backs out?... or am I getting selected and just simply waiting on the word?

well, is HCA closed because they had no billets or because someone filled the billet? If someone filled the billet and they have to back out then you could get the call, if there were no billets then you will probably stay as an alternate until you apply for the next FY spots. These are both things I have seen happen.

I think I may be waiting until someone backs out because I'm almost positive that there were plenty of HCA billets. Thanks for the feedback.

DIVO can probably look and see how many there were, but I have seen years where there were single digits, each year is different.

I would also like to know if there were slots for the specialties that are now closed. I applied to one of them and was told that I'm on a list of some sort, but I don't have a final selection letter at this point.

Looks like we're in the same boat. I'm going direct accession HCA and was put on an alternate list until the accession plan is signed and released.

I'll look at the HCA numbers. That is typically the first MSC program to fill... If you are an alternate, typically a select has to decline for you to get the slot
