Since there was already a thread on the *NEW* ASTB, I figured that I would merge your thread here. Most of your "information" provided was already covered. I believe the test is called APEX-4 not ASTB-4.

Anybody taken the new ASTB yet? I'm scheduled to take it next Monday, it would be nice to know what there is to expect on the simulator portion. If not, I'll post my experience.

I was one of the people who tested it at API, and I have a commercial license. It was still pretty tough. I was average with the stick and throttle, but above average with the "We're gonna say some numbers into both ears, push the button on the throttle when you hear an odd number in the left ear, pull the trigger on the joystick when you hear an even number in the right ear." There's just way too much going on with the stick and throttle, and the graphic representation isn't really practical. Maybe if it were an actual flight sim and you had to fly some Highway-in-the-Sky or do some dogfighting...or something practical like that.

Looking forward to your post on the experience, I know a lot of us would appreciate any insight on the new test as a lot on here is only speculation. Also, if you could provide what you used to study and what you recommend that would be awesome. Specifically if you could address how much the old gouges posted on here have or haven't helped, if we need to memorize any formulas for math/a difficult math problem you haven't seen in any prep or HAVE seen that is similar, also the new simulator and how to prepare for it (maybe you can't, but a general idea of how it works) -- this would all be GOLDEN information.

It's my understanding that the old ASTB test scores were based on the average scores of everyone who took the test. How would this affect the first test takers of the new ASTB? Who are they compared to, those who took it in API?

Nope, test like that have to have an expiration date on scores to constantly adjust for the movement, the ASTB is good for life, two people that take the same form and give the same answers but are 4 years apart will have the same score.

Biographical Inventory with Response Validation (BI-RV)

1.) Will the ANIT be different information than the study guide that's been floating around do you think?
2.)For the NATFI and BI-RV: How will I know the answer they are looking for? Do you guys have any good information on the mentality of a pilot or how they would answer these type of questions?
3.) For PBM, should I play flight simulator or what?

Any pointers on how to study for this new test would be much appreciated

I'm taking it tomorrow. I'll post recommendations for study shortly after. I doubt there will be a good way to study for the BI-RV, but I'd tend to stick with responses that aren't against safety/regulations/superiors.
