It may not have as much pull as you'd like it to, but considering other political movements of recent it has gotten a lot further (Occupy Wall Street as an example) and has actually put members in Congress and had an affect on our political system. I wouldn't go as far to say it's a full on third party as you're right, the Republican's have taken them under their wing per say, but they are an identity that people can specifically align themselves to with saying Democrat or Republican.

Nothing really there I can disagree with. But that is a far cry from what people are trying to do by blaming the Tea Party for the government shutdown. It's actually quite comical.
 
Everyone needs a bad guy and it seems for the Democrats and (if we are to believe reports) the GOP, the Tea Party is that enemy you can blame.

Q: Now that the Blues are (apparently) "fully-funded" again, is anyone in the Fleet still held at "Tactical Hard Deck", etc. ? Haven't really been able to parse out if ops are back to '"quasi-normal" (including, I guess, the "readiness bathtub" between deployments?).

Anyone?
 
Don't know what word is being put out to fleet airwings WRT OPTAR, but we're still operating under the sequester/CR budgetary constraints.
