Navy Pilot/ NFO "Rolling" Boards MAR/APR 2013

The Navy doesn't need quitters among it's officer ranks.... Bye!

Where to begin. People back out of this process all the time. In the end, until you're throwing up your first salute, we are all statistics.

Booze? Drinking the pain away? Give me a break, and grow up. I am very much sober - are you actually that inept to think everyone on the planet works a traditional weekday 9-to-5 work schedule?

Baggage smashing? Couldn't be any further from what I actually do. And bankrupt again? We've been consistently profitable for years, and just completed the most successful merger in airline history. Facts be damned, though...whatever gives your ego a boost.

By the way - the term "baggage smashing" is of particular offense. Even more offensive coming from someone who intends to join the officer ranks as a naval aviator. I hope - soon - that you develop a concern that you apparently currently lack for the "baggage smashers" that will keep your multi-million dollar airframe in the air, your parachute packed properly, your engines lubricated, and ensure the payload delivers on target for you over the skies of some far away land.

You can mock me of my faith and conviction in Christ as much as you want delta, but that still isn't going to keep me from believing. In fact, I did take time out of my busy day yesterday to pray for you, and can only hope that God gets your heart straight and in the right direction. I could careless if you believe in him or not... that's your own personal business. I am by no means pressing my religion on you, as I have only made just a few posts about my Christianity on the entire thread. You can take this, and use this as "fuel" to help guide your self-pity attitude of bashing me over this thread, but at least I'm still in the running, regardless if I get picked up or not... of which I am fully prepared mentally, with either decision the board goes with my application.

You are right, this is a self-proclaimed, professional forum for applicants in the pipeline towards OCS. I did not make myself look foolish, as I am applying with confidence, and at least trying. Now, can you please remove yourself from the discussion, as we are all here to share useful information for those who are in the pipeline, instead of acting like a five year old? I realize my scores are not the Navy's greatest, but I am man enough to at least step up to the plate and try something that I have always wanted to achieve. Quitting is heavily looked down upon more than trying is.

And I am glad to have the opportunity to remember someone pivotal during 9/11. Todd Beamer was, and is someone that I look up to as an American hero.

Take Care, Delta215

Anyway, I hope everyone who is selected gets their number one choice, with said selection being based on your own merits and accomplishments, not divine intervention or some other mythical variable.

Does GISpirate post a lot? Maybe so...

Does it warrant an attack on his faith and faith of many others on Air Warriors? Absolutely not

You all really need to calm down and quit jabbing at one another, because it makes ALL of you look childish on these "professional forums." Lets quit discussing who is drunk, whether delta has made a profit, and whether anyone needs a god of any faith to get his/her heart straight. Also there is no need to mock someone for realizing that pursuing OCS isn't the right choice for him/her. Ending the process before being selected is a whole lot different than quitting once you're at OCS. Frankly, the lack of respect and downright insult you have sent him for giving you both a better chance at being selected is embarrassing. He is opening a slot for someone else. Say thank you and good luck with his career instead of mocking him for not having the "peanuts" or trying to justify how you're better than a person because you ARE applying with equally low scores. All of you need to grow up, learn to take a joke and start acting like potential officer candidates. If anything the three of you have said really upsets each other I'd argue that you need to take a step back and see if you have the maturity and self control that is required to graduate from OCS, let alone become a good officer. I don't speak from past experience in the Navy, but in other leadership roles you have to have the composure to ignore and move on. Insulting one another is pathetic. Get over it and start to act like an actual adult/professional who is worthy of a receiving a slot to go to OCS, let alone has the proper mindset to succeed once you arrive in Newport.

Now can we PLEASE return this forum to some discussion that remotely follows these rolling boards or at least some useful information about OCS.
I haven't heard anything from my OR, is there any word on whether we were included in last weeks supposed board?

Thanks, and to be clear - yeah, a Navy career is upwardly mobile. You aren't an O-1 forever. Still, I refuse to walk away from my current job. I've read about others here with families who relocate their entire life including spouse and children to go to OCS and pursue their dream. I have immense respect for these folks.

Everyone's situation is different. My reasons for walking away as I said are a variety of reasons. A big part of it is long-term financial items. I've been paying into a house for years (that I happen to like living in). If the market were better, and I found myself with a lot of equity in the home (perhaps even a few years younger) the end result I'm sure would've been different. Additionally I'm almost 29, and the SNA ship has sailed in my judgement. I'd need a 21Apr or May OCS class-up date to commission by age 29. I had uncertainty in life and in my judgement I was wasting time and energy worrying about hearing back from my recruiter for a board that has still, in my view, little if any likelihood of actually convening in time for my 29th birthday. Stability and certainty ultimately outweighed the stress of not knowing where I'd be in 1, 2 months from now.

Also - I had SNFO as my #2 choice, but after thinking long and hard about it, it will never compare with logging the PIC time as the aircraft commander. Not all is lost, though, and there are plenty of civilian flight training paths to take (said paths are almost identical to those you'd have to take if you found yourself as a SNFO with hopes of becoming an airline pilot, e.g. obtaining ratings on the side out of your own pocket).

Anyway, I hope everyone who is selected gets their number one choice, with said selection being based on your own merits and accomplishments, not divine intervention or some other mythical variable.

I wish the best of luck to you in your future endeavors.

ALCON,

...relax. This is a thread to provide each of us with information about one another and the Naval Aviation community. Save the hostility for the enemy.

On a happy note, my paackage was pro-boarded this morning.

Now we wait...:)

Congrats man! So is everyone here pro boarded now? I know there were a few still waiting?

I called my OR today to see if there was movement.. I'm being that guy... Haha not really. I haven't bugged him in 3 weeks...

I jumped on delta215 pretty good after he quoted and insulted me. My bad, I apologize.. It didn't need to occur on the thread.

Also, baggage smasher refers to the guys handling bags, not working on air planes and life support systems.

I haven't received a pro-board notification yet but my packet went out Wednesday so I assume I will know soon. I am in on the waiting game though. :)

Question for the peanut gallery: What percentage of applicants in general do not get pro-boarded? Does anybody have statistics on those sort of things?

I just spoke with my recruiter and she said that this mysterious board last Thursday was a myth. Just some intel for you all.

Mine went in last Wednesday too, apparently a birth registration certificate is not the same as a birth certificate. Once I receive that and my recruiter copies/submits it I should be proboarded and in the official waiting pool as well. Fingers and toes crossed to make this next board whenever it may be!

Just got a call from my recruiter, he says he spoke with the Director of General Officer Accessions about the status of these ad hoc boards and that they are "going to try to throw one together this week - hopefully" and "otherwise no news for now".

So. More waiting!
