Pro-Rec SNFO May, 3rd 2013
I got off the phone with my recruiter and looks like my packet was submitted Friday! It's definitely a good feeling to know your packet has been submitted.
....waiting to be reviewed when again? Only time will tell
Great news man! You finally got your stuff in and now you are in the waiting boat with us haha!

SNA/SNFO/SWO. It's funny I feel like SWO is my best shot since I did well on the OAR.

SWO isn't a bad life. I came from the surface Navy (engineering). It's definitely not as cool as flying in my opinion but you still get to do your share of bad ass stuff. Any commission is a good agrees in my opinion. You look like you have competitive scores to make aviation tough.

Also, keep in mind the OAR is a potential indicator of your success at OCS (not just for SWO training).

From what I understand, recruiters are evaluated based on the quality of the applicant they submit to board. Whether or not they are offered a commission is immaterial in the end.

I'm pretty sure this is good gouge. AFAIK, and NavyOffRec can corroborate this, if the applicant is PQ and meets application goaling thresholds (according to that "genoff-quality-profile" document circulating around here [it's on the Texas NRD site, too]), then the recruiter gets credit regardless of your PRO-N/Y decision.

If they submit an application for certain designators that meets certain criteria they receive credit immediately so yes in that regard, but if the person doesn't meet that criteria or isn't one of the specific designators credit is given upon selection so no in that respect.

and then there is shipping goal.....

before you retired (congratulations by the way!), do you remember if SNA/SNFO were listed as those certain designators? it makes me think they're pushing for these applicants in order to address a particular deficit in manpower? is this what you're referring to with shipping goals?

Oh trust me I would have no problem with SWO. Honestly SNA is my first choice but I ultimately just want to serve my country and provide for my family or future family that is.

Oh ya I know. If anything I feel they are very important cause if you can't pass OCS zero chance as a Naval Officer. I am very pleased with my OAR score.

Probably not after you gave him a ration full of hate...not sure what he did for you to campaign against him, but he has contributed to the discussion.

Blah, blah, blah. "Full ration of hate"? I think we have varying definitions of the word hate. "Campaign against him"? Two posts mocking him constitutes a campaign? He makes himself look silly and immature. Though, on a forum moderated by users with screen names like "MasterBates" perhaps not exactly out of the mainstream...

Not that any of this matters. I have zero intention of joining the officer ranks, for a variety of reasons - mostly personal that are no one's business. I'm sure after reading the above two paragraphs this will please some of you. But I'm glad to have provided some of you with a laugh. I have nothing to lose after voluntarily withdrawing myself from consideration (I was pro-boarded).

I hope my spot on the board goes to someone who's heart is 100% in for it. Because if you aren't mentally 100% there, it isn't going to happen for you, pro-rec'd be damned.

Thanks, and to be clear - yeah, a Navy career is upwardly mobile. You aren't an O-1 forever. Still, I refuse to walk away from my current job. I've read about others here with families who relocate their entire life including spouse and children to go to OCS and pursue their dream. I have immense respect for these folks.

Everyone's situation is different. My reasons for walking away as I said are a variety of reasons. A big part of it is long-term financial items. I've been paying into a house for years (that I happen to like living in). If the market were better, and I found myself with a lot of equity in the home (perhaps even a few years younger) the end result I'm sure would've been different. Additionally I'm almost 29, and the SNA ship has sailed in my judgement. I'd need a 21Apr or May OCS class-up date to commission by age 29. I had uncertainty in life and in my judgement I was wasting time and energy worrying about hearing back from my recruiter for a board that has still, in my view, little if any likelihood of actually convening in time for my 29th birthday. Stability and certainty ultimately outweighed the stress of not knowing where I'd be in 1, 2 months from now.

Also - I had SNFO as my #2 choice, but after thinking long and hard about it, it will never compare with logging the PIC time as the aircraft commander. Not all is lost, though, and there are plenty of civilian flight training paths to take (said paths are almost identical to those you'd have to take if you found yourself as a SNFO with hopes of becoming an airline pilot, e.g. obtaining ratings on the side out of your own pocket).

Anyway, I hope everyone who is selected gets their number one choice, with said selection being based on your own merits and accomplishments, not divine intervention or some other mythical variable.

You'll forgive me if I mock someone who ends posts in a self-proclaimed professional aviator forum with a variety of meme pictures and lolwtfbbq's and omahgawds at the end of every sentence. Said individual further self-pwns by openly stating he prays to God that the Navy will lower its standards just enough so he can squeak by on a board (yeah, sounds like someone I'd want to be stuck with as a roommate at OCS, how about you?). Delusions of grandeur if you ask me. Others have called him out on similar asshattery, albeit with more tact than I desire to use on an otherwise anonymous internet site.

Maybe you'll take me seriously if I invoke a 9/11-related quote in my signature/

"The wave of the future, the wave of the future" ....others will know what I am referencing.... Maybe the booze got to you this evening as you know now there is no chance of wearing an officers dress... And you are drinking the pain away, all the while telling yourself you made the right choice. Maybe you are upset about it? I don't know?

It was more than two posts... and you know it... But who is counting....

It's funny that you mock those that have BTDT.... It's pretty obvious that you didn't have the peanuts to go through with the process....

I'm sure baggage smashing at Delta Airlines will provide you with a wonderful life and retirement.... I invite you to not post on this forum again, as you contribute nothing, and often come off as arrogant and entitled...

I am very happy you withdrew your application, you may have taken a slot meant for someone who had the where-with-all to see their endeavors through.

Best of luck to you at Delta... I hope they don't go bankrupt again

The Navy doesn't need quitters among it's officer ranks.... Bye!
