Does anybody know if this is any of the developments that were encroaching on or near the safety areas? I recall some years back the Navy threatening to beat feet if the city kept building to close to base.
Bases don't go on "lock down" (whatever that means) after a mishap. Why do they lock bases down after an incident like this? Is it to keep critical personnel around to aid in the investigation/aftermath?
RIVERCITY maybe?Bases don't go on "lock down" (whatever that means) after a mishap.

Yeah, I think you just made my point.Talking to my buddy from -106 today, they did. Maybe not the base, but their squadron was after a bit.
there's no rivercity "switch" for a physical squadron building like there is for a ship.RIVERCITY maybe?

Which ones would those be? Perhaps the 300 strip malls, or 5000 apartment complexes, or even the eleventy billion homes that start one mile from the runway in all directions, and end at the beach? I am not familiar with the safety areas, so I can't say for sure....

I like how in the CNN article, some guy claims he heard the commotion, rushed to the scene, and found a pilot still strapped to his seat....silly excited bystander with a faulty memory?
The only time I have flown into Oceana was at night on a BINGO profile from USS Ship. I aimed for the dark spot. Eventually a runway appeared. I am guessing Miramar is the same way.
