"Nametapes will be...made of black leather or synthetic leather material only"
Guess everyone just says "f*ck that, I want a brown leather nametape"?

Either you are solid and don't need the patch to prove it, or you aren't. If you went as a captain and are now a major or higher, you are just demonstrating a lack of self-confidence by wearing it. I've only seen one exception to that rule, and I worked for him. Oddly enough, he was cool and laid-back enough I wouldn't have guessed he was one unless he wore it. Hmm...maybe that's why he did....
Funny thing is, in my squadron right now - we have one that proves your point, and one that matches your exception to the rule.

I occassionally throw mine on, mainly to piss off a certain individual that I don't see eye-to-eye with...

And for the yuts out there in the tracom asking about this, when you get out her to MAG-11 or 3rd MAW at least, you will be authorized one airframe/TMS shoulder patch, squadron chest patch, wings/nametag, and the other side is reserved for WTI or Top Gun patches. At least that's the way USMC Hornet land is out here.

What if your flight suit nametape is made of "synthetic leather material" that happens to be brown?

I ask because my nametape is brown but it is made of synthetic leather material, not leather. It doesn't specify that it has to be black synthetic leather, just black leather or synthetic leather...which is what mine is, synthetic. It just happens to be brown.

^^I like the way you think. Even though "black" was clearly intended to modify both "leather" and "synthetic leather" they didn't write it that way. I'll see how the CG interprets that. Wait, I already know.

Or SWOs/CPOs trying to interpret "Brief Stops" when flight suits are involved... OY VEY!

Doesnt the reg say something like, "stops of convenience not to exceed 10-15 minutes?" I'd say that leaves a good bit of room for interpretation. As far as I'm concerned, if they can wear those atrocious NWUs out in town then flight suits should be fair game.

Sounds like there's no room for interpretation, actually.

Don't wear it out in town and you won't get hassled. Would you all stop wanking about your flightsuits?

Yeah. Instead, wear the official SNA Riviera Liberty Uniform: Sneakers, khaki cargo shorts, untucked collared shirt (without an undershirt if you're feeling super-casual), dog tags, and aviator sunglasses.

Seriously, stop wearing that stuff out in town - you look ridiculous.

Dude, I just wear Iron Maiden shirts, and stained jeans with worn out running shoes or flight boots depending on mode of transport. Shorts once in a while.
