DC Area in October

Right-o... So Bubba is looking to move out to the DC area in October.

Looking for a place to rent, preferably in Northern VA. Don't know if anyone here has anything or not, but figured I'd try. Not looking to spend more than about 1800 per month and need 2 bedrooms.

Aside from having a place to rent, what are some of the better areas to live? I'll be working at the Pentagon.

Cheers and thanks. (been looking at stuff on the interwebs)

If you are still single Clarendon and Courthouse in Arlington are really nice and have a lot of newer places, a lot of after hours fun to be had within stumbling distance and very easy access to the Pentagon. Parking is a bit of a pain (I have gotten three parking tickets my whole life, all three are courtesy of Arlington County) but is included with some buildings, Metro is right there though and it is a very short and easy trip to the Pentagon. Not sure on prices though, would be one of the more expensive areas. A few places down in Alexandria too are nice but not as familiar with the area, Mumbles lived down there though and should know a bit about that neck of the woods.

Have you asked this question before? Someone asked the same thing within 6-8 months, too lazy to look up that thread but it has a lot of good info. Just curious, what are you doing at the five-sided madhouse? Not too many O-3's there, at least the gym is free for you.

OMG... you didn't... you aren't.... aw good Lord, not the 5 sided house of PAIN!!! You'll be one of like 3 LTs there.

You can get whereever you need to go to have fun if you live near the metro, super convenient. Some of my buds lived in Old Town Alexandria, good drinking establishments, kind of a local feel... Cheaper places farther out in Springfield, still on the metro. All the folks I know lived south of the pentagon.

Im sorry for your choice in work places, it will take years off your life if you let it. I hope it gets you wherever you want to go.

SE Capitol Hill near Eastern Market. Regentrification was in full swing when I left 3 years ago, so things can vary block to block, but there's some great townhouses there. In fact, if I went back, I would buy - not rent. There was a TON of condos built during the boom - when I got there in '06, a parking space was $40k; when I left in '08, 1-2 br condos were down almost $100k w/ parking included. Personally, though, I'd go into a townhouse near Eastern Market (SE Penn Ave is a staffer happy hour hotspot; and you'll get addicted to the butcher and cheese lady at EM), on a good street that has not yet been renovated - just be careful of the property tax (which is how the regentrification was done...).

If you're really feeling daring, buying into the area around Nats Stadium will eventually go through the roof - just don't expect to live there during this tour.

And you should be opposite traffic flow (BIG ISSUE!!!) from SE to Arlington.

(However, Clarendon/Courthouse is an excellent suggestion as well - must check out "Ray's the Steaks". And, search YouTube for "Arlington Rap" to give you an idea of just how many Starbucks will be in your neighborhood.)

@ Vapes: I think it will. Then plan is to get some more quality time with MiniBubba. With him and the ex living in Alexandria, something in the DC area seemed best. Didn't want OPNAV as my first choice, but that's the way it went.

On another note, I've got paper orders in hand. Detach in October, report in November. Looking at Arlington, Alexandria and Annandale right now. Not looking to spend slot on an apartment, but want somewhere convenient to Alexandria and 5 Sided Hell.

We shall see what happens. And as an oh by the way, Drink-ex when I get there.

I'd do Old Town if I was single...
Like a friend of mine once said back in the 80’s: “The girls are Talbots on the outside and Victoria’s Secret on the inside.” ;) (Old Town is great! Loved it when I lived in the D.C. area.)

Planning on Old Town. I've got a price limit and need a 2 bedroom apt. May preclude Old Town if prices are what they look like from my first attempts at research.
