Safety Stand Downs

VT-21 wasn't bad. A promotion, some awards, a few of the Bobs got up and talked at us about some stuff, then after 20 seconds on be safe and don't do anything stupid and enjoy your weekend- we (the studs) were dismissed. 35 mins for us- a little bit longer for the IPs. I like being treated like an adult.

We got to sit in the Memorial Chapel and watch a graphic video on sexual assault courtesy of the SAPR lady (who is no longer the SAVI lady by the way). It was more than a little awkward...

Don't get used to it. They teach to the lowest common denominator in the fleet. The 6 year ADAN who has a DUI and is on his way to a slow, painful ADSEP is the target audience. Your idiot friend who is going to have so much fun tossing the M80 his fingers blow off? Key demographic.

Anyone who needs to be told not to hold a live firecracker is too stupid to listen to the advice.

Criminals and imbeciles will do what they do, no matter what we brief.

I'm not adverse to commanders occasionally giving a pep talk about expectations on libbo and such. I just don't think the revelations of safety standarounds reach anyone. "Really? Alcohol makes you drunk?" The pinnacle of stupidity are the classes DSS has to stage to fill the time, like beach safety, grill safety, etc. I didn't realize jellyfish stings were sapping our combat readiness.

The Ground Safety Officer's (GSO) primary duty is prevention of natural selection.

Funny you should mention that... as a young LTJG that was the gist of the off-the-record part of my GSO turnover to another LTJG friend of mine. He likes to remind me of that from time to time for the sake of our mutual amusement.

My SSD? I went to Vegas this past weekend. Safety was of course, the #1 priority during the entire trip.

I'm driving 1000 miles with no sleep in a truck with bald tires and a puppy that needs to shit every 30 minutes.

2 cases of diet coke counteracts this right?
