My gunsmith, in his continuiing quest to ensure I have no money, pulled this out the other day. I think you'll like it. Yea, he knows I'm a whore for any old .22 centerfire.

$750 got me a basically new Remington 700 light varmint in .221 Fireball, an older 12X Leupold scope, two boxes of factory ammo, 30 handloads and a box of Redding dies.

Should keep me off the streets for a bit and wreak havoc with anything that disagrees with a 40 gr bullet at 3500 fps.

ANY reference to Mr. Peabody & Sherman ... or for that matter, The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show, Dudley Do-Right of the Mounties, Fractured Fairy Tales, Aesop & Son, Boris, Natasha -- all of 'em -- gets my immediate attention and approval (even on a firearms thread).

What a great series of cartoons -- those shows/characters represent an era that will never be here again. What a GREAT time to be growing up as a kid, but actually, the 'humor' might have been a little 'advanced' for many kids.

If you weren't there, you really missed out ...

Very nice. IMHO, any Remington 700 is probably a good buy. I've probably owned 10 over the years and still own 3. Their heavy barrel varmiters shoot fantastic out of the box and with a little tweaking get even better. I have a 7-08 that shot sub MOA without any work on it except adjusting and cleaning up the trigger. I've got it in a H&S thumbhole stock and it outshoots some of the $3K custom jobs guys show up with.

As far as .22 centerfire, I've really had fun with my .22 Hornet TCs. Tack drivers all.

The Bullwinkle stuff brought a smile. One of my roomates at NUW was a big fan and was constantly coming out with quotes. Silly stuff coming from a grown man but he made it funny.

I've never owned a 700 before. I'm not a fan of rifles with safeties that don't lock the bolt down since I'm left handed (but shoot right) so I carry on my left shoulder and the bolt gets flipped open but you can't argue that they make an accurate rifle. My smith is a benchrest shooter so he went over the trigger and it's very crisp and set at 2 lbs. I prefer 3 for all my hunting rifles but I'll make do.

I have a Ruger #1 in .22 Hornet so I have a few bullets and small rifle primers around. :icon_tong

Yep, that's the Pugs man-cave. Here's a bigger shot. About to undertake a little reorganization after I get a piece of furniture that I'm working on out of there.
