I didn't find this here yet so thought I'd share. I was in shock that he managed to hit both wingtips and his right wheel but pull it away. This was on the Detroit River between Windsor and Detroit.

Well, you've got to be half mentally handicapped to fly in those races...that being said, damned lucky to be alive.

He actually spent years flying the Hornet before his exchange tour flying the F-15E. He was all ready an FCI (which is the Aussie equiv. of a Topgun instructor) when he came to the US.

Until the cockpit became engulfed in flames he was tracking down a pretty straight line and probably felt that it was going to end better than it did.

Matt's the second RedBull pilot to hit the water this year. A rookie had very much the same thing happen only he ended up in the water. Fortunately he managed to hit wings level and got away with few injuries. Hard to hold altitude in a 90 degree bank pulling hard. Glad Matt got away okay.

He was trying to steer clear of an airliner before he ejected.
