Need Kydex?

If so, check out http://shibumitactical.blogspot.com/. The guy who makes it, aside from being close friend of mine, makes first rate stuff. I carry and compete in local USPSA matches with a couple of his holsters and mag carriers, and he made me a one-off holster for my M9 to rest in the kangaroo pouch on the front of my body armor. Cheap, shameless plug for my pal's stuff? Yep. But
the gear's good, and reasonably priced for the quality.

I have to admit that your question through me for a second. I thought you were talking about the belt loops...

Anyway, it's just Kydex, but with a slight texture on the outside, as opposed to the totally smooth surface inside. It kind of feels like really, really dry leather....sort of.

The Eagle G-Code paddle I have for my 1911s has the same texture on the outside, as does my 'kangaroo pouch' holster my pal made for me. Galco plastic holster for my P220 does not.

Does that answer your question, or has the Leinenkugel gotten to me?

Two more holsters and mag carriers delivered yesterday when my buddy and I went shooting. I didn't have much chance to use the 229 SAS OWB holster, and no chance to use the IWB for my Kimber. First impression, though, is that the holsters are both tight. They'll wear in a bit like the others I have, so they were delivered with the tension screw a bit tight (adjustable tension on all the holsters). Still, though, with a bit of authority on the pull, my SAS was up and on target fast. The belt loops on the OWB are a bit snug on the double-thick riggers belt I was wearing yesterday, and I had to work them through while not wearing the belt. When I got home, I tried it with one of my regular leather belts and a Liger synthetic belt, and both fit perfectly.

The mag carriers are, simply put, perfect for me. They have the exact amount of tension on them that I like (retention v. speed), don't slide around on the belt, and are just overall well-made.

I'll toss up a couple pictures when I back later today, and I'll be using the SAS holster next week in a match.

Looks nice -- I like leather, I like Kydex. But a clarification, if I may ... ??? From your friend's website:

The Meaning of Shibumi:

''Shibumi is a Japanese word meaning refined simplicity, simple elegance and quiet perfection. It is a highly prized quality that few Americans and Europeans understand or appreciate. Shibumi has nothing to do with the flashy, decorative beauty admired in the west but refers to a clean, simple, restrained sense of distinction, refinement and taste. Shimbumi is strict, thrifty and without tournament. You can see shibumi in every facet of Japanese culture.''

The question: has your friend ever seen a Japanese TV game show ... ??? :)

I'm not even sure that my friend watches TV anymore. He's too busy with his 'real' job, shooting, home improvements, shooting, making Kydex goods for people, shooting, running with his dogs, shooting, building SBRs, and...uh....shooting.

I know that, aside from the bits of 'Yo Gabba Gabba' that I catch while with my daughter, I don't really watch TV all that much, either. Usually I just wind up ignoring whatever crap my wife is watching while I read a book or reply to cantankerous old guys on Airwarriors... (One round, smiley, in effect...FIRE!)

But who WOULDN'T want to be associated with a Japanese game show? They're only pure, distilled awesomeness, with a twist of greatness!

Soooooooo ... then your friend; he's evidently a man of accomplishment, letters, and leisure???

But to the 'game shows' ... I managed to escape the occasional Japanese TV Game Show w/ my sanity relatively intact as a result being press-gang forced to watch 'em during 25 years of Tokyo-Haneda, Kansai-Narita, Yokota, Misawa, Naha/Kadena, and O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-saka layovers ... my eyes ... MY EYES !!!

Thank God for the advent of Engrish-rangrage (sic) cable in the hotels ... :)
