In jolly green's defense, he does fly a jet, and it does go fast. It just happens to be white and very large :)

I happened to be outside last week as one was working the pattern at Pax last week and it is the largest thing that goes in and out on a regular basis. It actually is quite graceful and the white paint job suits it very well. Many airframes have been designed by Boeing since, but it is a timeless classic hardly looking out of place with sleeker designs that have come along since.

When last week HJ? I was there Wednesday night through Friday. The only pattern work we did was at night on Wednesday, though.

Hey Everyone..... will I "be flying a cargo plane full of rubber dog shit out of Hong Kong" for the rest of my military career?
commence pig pile ...

Hey, junior ... you should be so lucky, for during & after workin' & flyin' for UNCLE for 20 -- flying 'yank & bank' birds (the ones you seem to like) .... while in the airlines:

I flew eyeballs to Boston ...

I flew hearts to San Francisco (I guess you could say: I left my heart in SFO ????) ....

I flew bull semen to Buenos Aires ...

I flew 175 pregnant Holsteins from Wisconsin to Taipei, w/the ladies shitting all the way ...

I flew 12-hour accumulations of shit from 400 pax (many, many, many times) into Hong Kong and other ports of call ...

None of it was 'rubber', however ... and I truly believe that.

I suggest you think prior to opening your (perhaps) eager, but criminally stupid 'mouth' next time ... :)

/pig pile ...

I was there Tue-Fri with some visiting Air Force guys who asked what it was so we all watched for a bit. If it flies, I'll watch it.

Now now hold on, I'm not saying that there's anything wrong with helos or props. I'm just stating that jets are choice number 1 for me. Flying is what I want to do and not being selected for jets isn't going to push me away.

But thanks for the info guys

What exactly are the consequences, just kinda curious

The point is you don't even understand how big of a douchebag you are being, and that makes you an even bigger douchebag.

What you essentially are saying is that before you even GET to be part of the club, you are most likely not going to want to be where you end up (as jet guys are a minority in selection and you're likely to be somewhere else).

You are basically discrediting EVERYONE except an extremely small community for reasons you couldn't possibly speak intelligently on. You want jets. Why? I'm a fleet Naval Aviator and I couldn't even tell you what it's like to fly a jet or a P-3, but I can tell you that you don't know dick about flying or what you like about the F/A-18 etc.

Do you get airsick? Do you like lengthy briefs, filing flight plans and flying IFR all the time? Do you like flying FORM all the time and the lengthy briefing that takes? Do you like being single pilot? Do you like not having even an NFO much less a crew? Do you like bombing along at 40K feet and 600kts? Do you like skimming over the treetops at 200ft and 100kts?

You don't know anything about any of the above, and I don't know about some of it.... but what I do know is that you are full of shit. If you had asked the question "What can I do to improve my chances at getting jets in primary?" that question would have been acceptable, albeit trite and probably negative rep and flame-inducing.

But to ask the question you did "Chances are, I won't get jets and I want jets, so what are the odds I can bail on my community and the mere mortals who reside in it and join the awesome jet community because anything less just isn't good enough?". To shorten your question it was "Fuck the word "service". What can the Navy do for ME?"

Bottom line is yes, there is a possibility to transition. It is difficult, competitive and career suicide. Worse, if you apply and DON'T make it, you are now dead to the community which you have to remain a part of, and your quality of life probably won't be the same after that...

And no, a year or two of "experience" puts you still in your first fleet squadron, and if you were to try and transition then..... you are either really stupid or have some big fucking balls. Go tell your skipper as a JG/new LT in your first squadron you want to go fly jets and hand him your package to sign. See how loud he laughs, how far his boot gets up your ass and how miserable JOPA will make your life. You have a LOT to learn.

If I wanted helos I'd have gone Army, If I wanted to fly a giant air bus I'd go American Airlines

It's not exactly easy to just get a job at AA. Some of the guys at American have flown fast movers, some Army helos, some transports - and some of those guys are being furloughed. These guys/girls have served their country. Every military aviator is doing a specific mission in the service of their nation. A lot of people would give their left nut just to be able to be a military aviator in any branch/airframe serving in any way... but they're too old or medically unqualified.

The best thing going for you is your relavtive anonymity via the internet.

You see Jimey,
You are dealing with guys with a lot of experience. They have a ton of flights hours. They are older and wiser. They have earned their positions; they have been there and done that.

But they are also very sensitive, and you hurt their feelings. Shame on you!

They are old and have forgotten what it was like to be heading to flight school. They forgot what it was like to be eager and wanting to be the best.
To steal from the Air Force, "Aim High", work hard and you will make it... or you won't, and watch the attitude because their aren't many jet guys instructing in primary.

Here are 3 points to take on:
1) Almost everybody, after a short adjustment period, absolutely loves what they fly. 'Cause flying is awesome.
2) Many people put helos or maritime as their 1st choice regardless of grades.
3) But nobody ever said "Crap, I got my 3rd choice-- jets."

Ya, you insulted some poeple. Ok... you insulted them twice. But they are Naval Aviators; they have been insulted once or twice before. Most of them can handle it.
