Adult Softball or Baseball Leagues in Pensacola

I am just curious if anyone knows if there are any Adult Softball leagues or Adult baseball leagues in the Pensacola area. I will not be down there until next summer, but I am looking just to see what my options are. Thanks.

If your timing is right you can play on the Captain's Cup team for NASC. I didn't do the Captain's Cup softball when I was in VT-4 and I kind of regret it.

I encourage all studs to play on the squadron/command teams (any sport). Even if you don't have skills go out and support the squad. Bring some beverages and enjoy.

I have been in the VTs a while now and without a doubt the SNAs that have participated on the teams have done better. I am not saying they get preferential treatment (they may, but not from me) but having something in common (outside of work) with your superiors is rarely a bad thing. I will say that the more you can interact with your superiors the better. Seeing they are human like you makes some things less intimidating. Being able to talk about something other than work is often highly desired. This works in reverse too. If you struggle with the program at some point you are more likely to receive the help you may need to get you over the hump.

Bottom line

Play
Interact
Relieve Stress
Start being a part of the squadron and not just a passing face

A little rambling but you get the idea.

I was on the VT-28 softball team back in the day. It was a good mix of instructors and studs, and we really had a blast. We kicked some ass too, and won the tourney. The "Coach" was a Marine Capt who was an IUT at the time. We are still friends. This is his current profile pic on facebook:

Holy smokes they've got team sports in the squadrons? That's awesome. I'd love to swing a bat again someday down the road.

Yes I can understand how having something to talk about rather then just aviation would be beneficial.

Does anyone know how to find out about joining a team as a student? I played with my old command, but they just posted a sign up sheet in a pway. Would the MWR be a good place to start?

In A-pool they'll make announcements during muster for captain's cup events, when you get over to the VT's they just post the schedules in the hallways and in the line shack and you pretty much just show up if you can.

I was on the VAW-120 Flag Football Team as an instructor and I regret not having done it as a student. Good times had by all and I saw some amazing athletes out there. Some of those kids would probably be playing for D-1 teams if they had the SAT scores out of high school. That's my theory, of course.

To back up FlyBoyd, our "coach" was a student NFO that was actually struggling with the program. But all the instructors, I think, gave him a bit of a break because we all knew him outside of work and knew he was a good guy and a good leader.

Bottom line to all students, go play for your command team even if you suck. If you sit on the bench and cheer for your team then grab a beer with them afterwards, the instructors will know you. And knowing is half the battle, not sucking in the plane is the other half.
