Boards canceled till November?

Just got a call from my buddy who applied for SWO/Suppo/Intel. He got the call saying he was a non-select for Intel and apparently his recruiter forgot to put him in for SWO/Suppo so he's outright enraged at the moment. He also told me that they relayed the info to him that there are "too many applicants so the boards have been canceled until November.

Anyone else hear this? I called the recruiter's office about five minutes ago and the woman who answered confirmed Intel positions were closed until November and possibly for the year. Secondly, she said she believes SNA/SNFO/Suppo are closed as well but I need to call and confirm on Monday when the recruiters are in the office. If this is the case I am going to be quite pissed but nothing like the slogan "Hurry up and wait." eh? Sheesh.

If anyone has any info on this please post away.

Dude...don't just throw out speculation. The Navy will continue to need people. It's a company, people are constantly coming and going. There is turnover.

One time on the board here, even the recruiters were on here saying that slots were completely closed, only to be proven wrong. The best way to stop passing on bad gouge is to stop spreading it yourself.

The " I heard from a guy who knows a guy..." is never reliable. People should just always apply, you never know what can happen. They will never stop turning away qualified applicants. Maybe someone got a non-select and instead of manning up..got butt hurt and was like "Yeah, they aren't accepting people right now.." It happens.

Not trying to spread bad gouge. The woman at the Recruiters station did confirm the Intel Board is closed until November as for the others I need to call Monday.

I was just curious if anyone else had heard anything similar.

Well considering recruiters were on HERE posting that for sure FY' 2009 slots were completely full, only to have people still getting selected (I was one of them). You just need to trust in the system.

Press the " I believe " button..and just know the Navy will continue to run as it has done for the last 200+ years. They are ALWAYS looking for qualified people.

Aaand this spring they said no PCS moves for a large number of people until September. What happened about a month ago? They started up PCS moves again. What you have been told is the reality right now, which is only a guess at the future. Right now that's what they're saying. In a month, boards may only be canceled until October. Noone knows (someone somewhere might actually know, but don't bet on it, and it's certainly not you). Keep applying, and don't waste time speculating on stuff you can't control.

Pro-rec'd INTEL!!!!!
I rushed like crazy to get my application in for the May boards because my OR was "absolutely, 100% sure" that it would be the last board for intel, I'm pretty sure he said until January or something ridiculous like that. Apparently that was not the case, as I perused the July boards thread a bit and saw people applying for intel. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say no one ever knows anything for sure haha. Just get your package together and get it to your recruiter. Worry about that stuff when/if you have to.

Thankfully everything is sent in for me. I was told I would be in for the September Boards two days ago so hopefully everything will continue as planned.

So there you go. Stop spreading panic and all the other little hopeful wannabes start posting the same concerns..then you have 8 separate threads by applicants asking, "Is it true...? I heard so and so...".

The point of this forum is to help people achieve their goal of earning wings, and those that have wings, this place has members who have been there and done that, that can maybe give them some guidance on something important in their career. It is not a place to facilitate rumor mills. While it is inevitable, at least throw in the caveat that it is speculation. Don't state it as fact.

Recruiter told me that the SNA/NFO boards were closed until beginning of November b/c they're full for the FISCAL year. If I'm not mistaken the Navy fiscal year begins and ends in October. As soon as Oct/Nov comes around, they'll start up again with a fresh slate.
Take it for what you will, I'm just sharing my "this guy told me this" experience.
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

That is true..because it's impossible to fill FY'09 quotas right now. If you went TODAY to OCS, it takes 12 weeks minimum to commission. You would be going into the next fiscal year, thus you would be FY'10.

The fiscal year slots they select, means the year you commission. I commissioned early June, which means I am a FY'09. If you selected TODAY, and commissioned in October, you would be a FY'10 selectee.
It is not when you get the selection for your pilot slot. FY'09 is full just like FY'08 is full..simply because the books are closed for that. The guys who are commissioning in SEPT (the last FY'09 quotas) are already at OCS.

That is not true. They are having August boards for both of those as I'm one of the applicants on them.

The FY 09 ended on July 5th and FY 10 started them. So Sooner is right, all people selected after that are going to be FY 10 selectees, even though they'll prob be going to OCS Fall 2009 still.

My recruiter told me the same thing. After I submitted and did PRT (early May) he told me that they changed it and had boards through July, and that the July board would be the last for intel until 2011.

Well since I am a new applicant to my recruiter, there was no need for him to tell me that there was an available August board. There was no way I would make it being that we're basically in August already. So yes you're right, but August was a given.

Anybody here heard of a September or October SNA board?

According to my recruiter I am all set to go for the September Board for SNA/SNFO/Suppo. That was as of two days ago. I'm praying nothing has changed but I will find out more on Monday when they are back in office and I give them a ring.
